We have the unique and significantrole to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of everyhuman spaceflight program the International Space Station (ISS), NASAs Orionspacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, theorbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back andforth to the moons surface, and serving as the platform for deep spaceexploration. From critical systems onthe ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanceddevelopment for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of thefoundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC,the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samplesreturned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbitaldebris analysis, and basic research to further humankinds understanding of theorigins of our solar system.

We are currently in need of a Research Engineer - Life Support Systems tojoin our team. Do you have the following skills?
The selected candidate will:
* Perform hardware design for low TRL (Technology Readiness Level) LSS (Life Support System) Hardware projects. This position requires knowledge and ability to work in a Research and Development work environment.
* Select and apply engineering and systems techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity. Perform systems analysis and modeling functions for these projects.
* Coordinate with matrix organizations and vendors in test engineering (planning, apparatus design, execution, reporting, troubleshooting, etc.)
* Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
* Perform failure troubleshooting and resolution as needed.
* Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks.
* Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
RequiredEducation/Experience/Skills:
This position hasbeen posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidates experience,requirements and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates atany level for which this position has been advertised.
* BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) years of direct engineering experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment with emphasis in CAD, CNC, lathes, mills, and sheet metal fabrication.
* Must have history of writing and presenting technical papers requiring excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in research and flight hardware development such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, thermal testing, design software and tools, and office software.
* Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical systems including design constraints, safety issues and operations.
* Ability to concurrently work independently and work with others in a team environment for designing, problem solving and evaluating design concepts.
* Experience in some or all of the following areas: fire safety systems, reactor bed design principles, gas adsorption, catalytic reactions, particulate filtration, gas scrubbing, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, oxygen systems development, life support systems, environmental control systems, combustion science and materials science.
* Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules and to work unsupervised for long periods of time.
* Must live in Houston area or be willing to relocate to the Houston (NASA JSC) area.
* Willingness to travel (1 to 2 time per year).
RequisitionPreferences:
* Advanced Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering degree.
* Experience with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures.
* Experience with subcontract management.
* The ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
* Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle and its associated processes.
* Hands-on experience with NASA hardware.
