Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to support our CMS BESST program.

The Technical writer/editor's duties will include collaborating with software developers, technical editing and writing, establishing documentation guidelines, procedures, and templates; word processing, and coordinating final production of deliverables. Deliverables may include design documents, user manuals, operations guide, release notes, standard operating procedures, and other contract deliverables, all of which must meet customer and software industry documentation standards and requirements.

Principal Duties / Responsibilities
* Write and edit plain language content for Government client's application development teams.
* Establishing document repository organization, including access permissions, and uploading and organizing artifacts.
* Establishing organized mechanisms to properly track development or update of documentation, client reviews and formal submission.
* Participating in client meetings and identifying required potential changes to documentation, taking minutes of the meeting and updating it on wiki.
* Providing clear, constructive, actionable recommendations to customers for all reviewed documents.
* Reviewing, editing, and preparing client documents for publication and dissemination.
* Utilize software development and collaboration tools (Confluence tool, SharePoint, Redhat tools).
* Researches and compiles technical data for use in various operation and maintenance manuals, training materials, installation guides, and other technical documentation.
* Obtains data from review of documentation, interviews with client and project personnel, drawings, schematics, and reports, and the study of published material.
* Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables.
* Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations.
* Translates technical information into clear, readable documentation to be used by both technical and non-technical users.
* Documentation includes technical documents, including reports, user manuals, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.
* May provide proofread and provide feedback on materials prepared by peers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, and work experience.
* 5+ years of related experience preparing technical documentation.

Skills and Abilities
* Must have effective written communications skills including formatting and grammar.
* Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices involved in technical research and writing.
* Knowledge of and ability to use various word-processing and/or desktop publishing software applications.
* Knowledge of healthcare industry standards.
* Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid standards and requirements
* Familiarity with remediation of technical documentation to comply with accessibility standards such as 508 compliance.
* Familiarity with agile approaches such as scrum and SAFe are highly desired.
