JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Training Specialist delivers technical skills training and instruction to new and senior level craft personnel. The training in delivered in a progressive fashion beginning with fundamental skills to the most complex. Critical to this position is not only the ability to communicate effectively, but, also to evaluate accurately a participants confidence and competency. This position weighs heavily when determining the advancement of craft personnel. This specific position will support Distribution Line, Grid Mod systems and safety mandated training as well as other training as assigned by Supervisor of Utility Learning and Development.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct safety and technical skills training programs to ensure employees have the right knowledge of safety, policies and procedures, as well as the technical skills required to perform effectively in their jobs.

Mitigate all risk associated with delivery of technical skills training and report safety violations.

Evaluate employee and classification to determine the training curriculum needed for safe, compliant, and error free performance of their respective position. Support design and development and maintenance of new and existing safety, skills and technical training materials.

Facilitate delivery of technical skills instruction for craft workers within the Distribution organization. The incumbent must be versed in various delivery formats and knowledgeable of the subject matter in both theory and practical application.

Must be able to effectively observe and evaluate performance of training participants. Ultimately, this person must be able to recommend progression or not in respect to the training participants abilities.

Evaluate effectiveness of training processes and programs and provides feedback to management. Evaluates employee and provides feedback to employee and management.

Communicate with stakeholders and industry experts to identify best practices on existing training courses and content, as well as, requests for additional training courses and programs.

Provide department personnel with training and assignment opportunities that allow for the development and expansion of their knowledge, skills, and abilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor degree preferred.

Minimum experience required of the position

Training Specialist: 6+ years' utility experience

Training Specialist, Sr: 8+ years' utility experience

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

Strong Safety culture. Practical knowledge of technical skill to be taught. Able to perform technical craft techniques appropriate to the subject matter being taught. Able to effectively communicate in various mediums and various styles. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Customer Focus. Extensive intersystem travel required. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deliverables in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with multiple levels of the organizational structure. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi-projects simultaneously.
