Job Description

Job Summary
This is skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and servicing of high pressure steam boilers and related equipment on an assigned shift. The work involves responsibility for the operation, servicing of high pressure steam boilers, pumps, motors, gas controls, emergency power generators, forced draft systems, safety devices, boiler controls, and recording devices. Work is performed per the established procedures under the general supervision of a supervisor who reviews the work by observing the boiler operation for achievement of desired results.

Position Responsibilities

* Operates and adjusts high pressure gas fired boilers in the steam generating plant.
* Maintains maximum boiler efficiency by adjusting, reading, and interpreting gauges, indicators, and steam flow meters.
Operates steam plant as situation warrants on natural gas.
* Observes boiler plant operations through use of electronic or pneumatic controls, pressure gauges, and safety devices.
* Supervises or performs the chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water.
Maintains various records and reports relative to steam plant operations.
Makes regular checks of steam plant equipment, adjusts, repairs, and services equipment as required.
* Performs related work as required.
* Checks on a maintains operation of all air compressors
Maintains proper level of water in boilers
* Operates valves controlling operation of feed pumps and boiler blow downs
* Will stop the operation of a defective boiler and report condition to supervisor/management
* Operates valves for proper steam distribution to the main plant
* Verifies and checks operation of gas handling system, water treatment equipment, deep well pump and storage tank as required
* Greases, oils and packs valves as directed by supervision
* Responsible for taking CO2 readings as requires
* Keeps the boiler house and offices in a neat and organized manner by practicing 5S
* Attends and successfully completes all safety and quality training
* Performs all work in a safe manner regarding to ConAgra safety procedures
* Attends training to upgrade skills on boiler, air compressor and ancillary systems.
* Work alternative work schedule

Basic Qualification:

* At least 5 years of hands on boiler/waste water operation experience
* Must be able to work 3rd shift hours and or a rotating schedule
* Must have a minimum of HS diploma or GED
* Must be able to work within the physical demands of the job
* Must be have hands on experience with boiler/waste water systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Technical degree is preferred
* Thorough knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of high pressure steam generation plant equipment.
* Thorough knowledge of steam plant safety standards and procedures.
* Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, written orders, control gauges, manufacturer's operating instructions books, and to record boiler plant information.
* Ability to operate and regulate boiler plant equipment and to adjust as required for plant output.
* Ability to understand and follow complex oral or written instructions on proper plant operation.
* Skill in repairing and maintaining various types of steam plant equipment.

Physical Demands

To be successful in this environment, a candidate should be able to meet and perform the responsibilities as described above with or without physical accommodation. Must be able to tolerate and work in temperatures of less than 35 degrees and more than 100 degrees. Must be able to lift up to 75lbs. Must be able to tolerate exposure to and use of sanitation chemicals. Demonstrated ability to climb stairs and ladders, sit, stand, kneel, bend, push, pull, stoop and crawl.
