About This Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Extrusion Engineer in our Manufacturing Engineering team. Seeking a technical owner of Manufacturing of components used in medical devices across Boston Scientifics plant network. This position leads initiatives for the daily support of extrusion products, processes, materials, and equipment to meet production area goals (i.e., safety, quality, cost, and delivery) as well as supporting the development and commercialization of new products. In a fast-paced and dynamic environment, this position will be responsible for several manufacturing processes, working cross-functionally with quality and production teams to achieve business unit goals.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
* Monitor performance of equipment, machines and tools and corrects equipment problems or process parameters that produce non-conforming products, low yields or product quality issues
* Communicate effectively to an audience consisting of peers and management in Engineering, Production and Quality
* Participate and/or lead partnership communication activities with downstream partners across the plant network.
* Plan, organize, and prioritize own daily work routine to meet production requirements and project schedules
* Troubleshoot new and existing products/process problems as related to design, material, or processes
* Apply problem solving and process improvement methodologies to improve moderately complex and diverse manufacturing processes across multiple product lines, ensuring root cause of problem is identified and quickly resolved
* Train and/or provide work direction to operators/technicians
* Recognize quality signals and escalate appropriately, using quality system tools
* Incorporate business policies and procedures into task completion
* Work under general direction to identify, implement, and manage equipment requirements to support production goals
* Work with vendor/suppliers to design, procure, and fabricate equipment tooling and fixtures
* Leverage existing/emerging technologies to meet business needs
* Design and coordinate standard engineering tests and experiments
* Consistently summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from test results
* May lead a project team of small to moderate scope
* Work cooperatively with R&D, Process Development, Quality, Production, Regulatory, Equipment Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure project success.
* Participate in product development activities. Work with cross functional teams to develop the validation strategy, risk documentation deliverables (PRA, DCM, DFMEA, Print Specifications), and production area strategy to deliver quality and target cost goals at product launch.
* As required, successfully contribute to both new product development teams and product support, typically including the following activities: process capability studies, process development and validation, Six Sigma and Value Improvement Projects
* Contribute to PLCP design activities. Participate in Design Freeze, Design Verification, and Design Validation activities as part of the overall product development lifecycle.
* Contribute and participate in developing new cutting-edge technologies and processes to deliver capabilities to meet future product design needs.
* Influence and develop Lean Tools to drive continuous improvement in the unique extrusion manufacturing environment.
What We're Looking for In You:
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelors Degree in Engineering or applicable field
* Understand engineering principles theories, concepts, practices and techniques
* 2 - 4 years experience in a manufacturing environment
* Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
* Ability to effectively troubleshoot manufacturing processes
* Highly collaborative, with strong written and verbal communication skills, adjusting for audience requirements
Preferred Qualifications
* Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering background
* Extrusion knowledge and experience
* Medical device or heavily regulated industry experience
* Robust technical skills with proven application on projects
* Familiarity with various polymer processing techniques including extrusion & bonding
* Experience with Minitab or other statistical software
* Equipment and process validation experience
* Experience with high volume automated equipment and systems
