Job Title: Alcohol Clerk Reports to: Liquor / Grocery Manager Salaried or Hourly: Hourly Job Code: 001029 Department: TAB Date: March 2015

Position Purpose: Maintains and replenishes stock in the liquor department in a safe and efficient manner to meet customer purchasing needs. Ensures the cleanliness and visual appeal of the department. Ensures customer service and product quality, selection and presentation.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

* Champions Company and Division customer service programs to meet or exceed Division customer service goals. Handles customer relations in a positive manner, including effective resolution of customer complaints. Promotes Albertson's philosophy of personalized service in the liquor department.

* Receives and breaks down loads, cuts cases, prices and marks product. Stocks, displays, faces, dusts and rotates product according to Company procedures and Division schematics to ensure quality, temperature, selection, eye-appeal and proper inventory level to meet customer demands. Prevents breakage of products. Creates effective displays for mixers, beer, liquor, wine and other related merchandise in the liquor department.

* May operate checkstand equipment such as cash register and scanner to process customer orders. May be accountable for proper cash handling procedure and proper accounting of sales.

* Handles customer relations. Assists customers by answering questions on product quality and taking and filling special orders. Makes product suggestions and engages in suggestive selling. Makes intercom announcements.

* Ensures compliance with state and federal liquor sales laws and Company restricted sales and loss prevention policies. Monitors inventory and space security.

* Maintains and organizes sales area, backroom and cooler.

* Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately. Receives and appropriately resolves customer complaints and reports to the Liquor Supervisor as appropriate.

* Responsible for performing all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity.

* Other necessary and required duties.

Skills and Physical Requirements:

* Requires working knowledge of all job duties within the Liquor Department.

* Requires strong communication skills and interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers.

* Requires a good understanding of overall company practices and liquor policies and procedures on storage, safety, sanitation and loss prevention. Requires knowledge of state and federal liquor sales laws.

* Must be able to learn types, nomenclature, alcohol content, uses and care of liquor department products. Requires an awareness of popular drink recipes.

* Requires the ability to judge and react to business activity.

* Must have knowledge of product quality, variety, standards, sanitation and labeling.

* Requires knowledge of basic mathematics and metric measurements.

* Frequently reaches, lifts, stacks and maneuvers objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 80 lbs. Bends, stoops and reaches frequently and may climbs ladders. Pushes and pulls fully loaded hand trucks, six-wheeler carts and pallet jacks.

* Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.

* Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic mathematics and metric measures.

* Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment. Utilizes safety cutters, compactors and checkstand equipment.

* May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Scheduled hours will vary. Good attendance is required.

* Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to cutting equipment, electrical displays and other work aids necessary to perform job duties.

Work Environment:

* Frequent exposure to 33 to 40 Fahrenheit while handling products in cooler.

* Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment. Exposure to varying temperatures while working in the loading and receiving area.

In 1939, Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, took $5,000 he saved and $7,500 he borrowed from his wife’s Aunt Bertie, and partnered with L.S. Skaggs to open his first Albertsons store on 16th and State Streets in Boise, Idaho. Joe knew the keys of running a really great store, and it was all about working hard for the customers: give them the products they want, at a fair price, with lots of tender, loving care. Joe was innovative, too. He had one of the first in-store magazine racks in the country along with a scratch bakery and fresh ice cream made in-store. He worked hard, seven days a week, on his vision to build his company, and through his inspiring work ethic and tireless
determination to run the best store, the first store thrived. Just two years later, he had opened two other stores in neighboring communities and grew the fledgling company’s sales to over $1 million by the end of 1941.
