Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Project Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering organization to successfully develop and execute capital projects that support the company’s strategic growth plans.  This position is also responsible for implementing standard engineering processes at all locations that drive execution of capital projects in alignment with our stage gate process for product development.  This position has dotted line relationship with the Manufacturing location engineers to ensure that approved projects are appropriately staffed and follow Milliken’s common engineering processes. The role works closely with the process design team and R&D to define new process and equipment requirements to support development of new products.     

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Completion of capital projects within established timeline, budget, performance, and safety metrics. 

Standard engineering processes for project execution are implemented and followed for all capital projects. 

Current year capital spending aligns with approved capital budget. 

Utilization of external resources where appropriate to develop solutions and implement best practices. 

Ensure project execution process is gated and includes the appropriate tools are used to for project execution  

Engineering tools are available to engineering team to optimize execution of capital projects. 

Develop and maintain a five-year capital plan that aligns with corporate strategic growth plans. 

Build strong relationships with outside engineering partners that can help us to effectively execute capital projects both domestically and globally. 

Work closely with business development teams to align engineering resources to ensure we successfully deliver company growth. 

Prepare capital budgets, review bids and negotiate contracts. 

Manage project communications and reporting with senior management team. 

Provide specialized expertise or support to production or product development teams. 

Effectively manages direct reports, including performance management (setting and modifying objectives, giving prompt corrective feedback as well as praise, coaching for improved or sustained performance, reviewing performance, conducting salary planning), career development (planning and holding regular discussions with employees about their personal growth and development, including career goals), and building open and trusting relationships that further high employee performance and engagement. 

Responsible Care 

Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RC-14001) and follow plant procedures to ensure compliance to requirements. 

Understand the RC-14001 Significant Aspects of your job and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts. 

Minimize waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy while performing job tasks. 

Contribute to continuous improvement of the environmental, health, safety, security and Responsible Care performance and programs. 

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED 

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial preferred)
8+ years of relevant industry experience in chemical, paper & pulp, or food & beverage manufacturing
5+ years leading large-scale capital projects 
Prior people leadership experience
Excellent project management skills (prioritization, problem solving, resource allocation and business analytics)
Understanding and use of Lean, Six sigma and Policy Deployment philosophy
Ability to positively influence the team to move capital projects forward in an expedited timeframe
Demonstrated experience in driving results and change throughout an organization
Ability to work collaboratively with R&D, the process design team and Portage operations team
Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and chaotic situations
Ability to maintain a positive approach and teamwork both internally and externally
Superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Experience interfacing with customers, both internal and external
Experience working with senior leadership
Travel domestic and international
