The Sanjana Lab at the New York Genome Center is looking for a motivated individual to work as a Research Assistant within a highly creative and dynamic research team of scientists, engineers, and life science entrepreneurs.
Our team works on a diverse array of projects that span genomics, bioengineering, cancer biology and neuroscience. We focus on developing new genome engineering technologies to understand gene regulation, development, tumor biology and genetic drivers of disease. Recent work from the group has included in vivo and RNA-targeting CRISPR screens, pairing CRISPR perturbations with multiomic single-cell readouts, engineering T cell therapies and precise genome editors, and uncovering cis-regulatory elements in the human noncoding genome.
We are looking for someone to join our team, work in a collaborative environment, and perform research related to genome editing, immunotherapy and functional genomics. We request that all applicants complete the skills questionnaire here before applying for the position: https://bit.ly/slab-ra
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan, execute and troubleshoot complex biological experiments both independently and in collaboration with colleagues;
Maintain transgenic mouse colonies (breeding, weaning, and genotyping)
Techniques required for development and engraftment of human tumors in animal models, treatment with cell therapies and in vivo genetic screens: IM, IV and IP injection, orthotopic cell transplantation, bone marrow transplantation, in vivo imaging.
Manage small independent projects that include molecular biology, cell culture, mouse work, expression analyses and computational biology. Not all of these skills are required but familiarity with some of them is helpful.
Consult with scientific literature and other scientists as needed to better understand scientific experiments and problems, and propose solutions to emerging problems.
Record and communicate findings accurately and professionally.
Position Requirements:
BS in Biology or related field and demonstrated experience in experimental biology.
Previous experience with mouse handling.
Previous experience with mouse colony management.
Familiarity with IRB protocol submissions.
Ability to independently collect and analyze data. Exceptional attention to detail and meticulous execution and record of experiments is essential.
Motivation, scientific curiosity and commitment to work in a dynamic and highly productive working environment.

New York, New York
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit academic research institution focused on furthering genomic research that leads to scientific advances and new insights and therapies for patients with neurodegenerative disease, neuropsychiatric disease, and cancer. Leveraging our strengths in whole genome sequencing, genomic analysis, and development of genomic tools, the NYGC serves as a nexus for collaboration in genomic research for the New York community and beyond.
The NYGC harnesses the expertise and builds on the combined strengths of our faculty, member institutions, scientific working groups, affiliate members, and industry partners to advance genomic discovery. Central to our scientific mission is an outstanding faculty who are leading independent research labs based at the NYGC and jointly with one of our member institutions, bringing a multidisciplinary and in-depth approach to the field of genomics.
The NYGC has attracted leading scientists whose wide-ranging expertise — including single cell genomics, genome engineering, population genomics, statistical genetics, computational biology and bioengineering —brings a multidisciplinary and in-depth approach to the field of genomics. NYGC senior and core faculty members, who hold joint appointments at leading New York institutions, include a Nobel Laureate, three Lasker award winners and five members of the National Academy of Sciences. Since its inception, NYGC researchers have published more than 200 research studies in leading, high-impact scientific journals.
