Job Description

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in plumbing engineering design, with a strong understanding of plumbing systems for complex facilities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing detailed plumbing engineering designs for a wide range of facilities, including water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and other public and industrial buildings.
- Preparing technical reports, design documents, plans, and specifications, ensuring plumbing systems comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Designing plumbing systems including sanitary and storm drainage, potable and protected water, tepid water systems, natural gas systems and related building utilities.
- Conducting site surveys, developing equipment inventories, completing plumbing condition assessments, and evaluating recommended improvement or rehabilitation measures.
- Supporting fire protection and life safety design efforts as related to plumbing systems, including water supply evaluations, fire pump and storage considerations, code-driven egress coordination, and fire hazard analysis.
- Collaborating with sales staff to support proposals and responses to RFPs by providing plumbing technical expertise, reviewing proposals for technical accuracy, and participating in client meetings to assess existing conditions and future plumbing needs.
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, supporting skill development and professional growth within the plumbing discipline; may oversee and review the work of junior engineers.
- Participating in industry conferences, symposia, and professional events to enhance the visibility of CDM Smith’s plumbing and fire protection services.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 10 years of related experience.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Certification/License Requirements
Professional Engineer
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary design environment.
- Ability to read and interpret building and plumbing system design documents.
- Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) preferred.
- Experience with fire suppression systems (wet, dry, preaction, deluge, foam, clean agent), fire pumps, water storage tanks, and integration of plumbing systems with fire alarm and life safety systems.

- Advanced knowledge of Revit, CADD, and 3D modeling tools used for plumbing design and documentation.
- Expert understanding of plumbing engineering principles, codes, and systems design.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, etc.).
