Job Description

Reporting to the SVP Global Clinical Operations, the VP, Global Clinical Operations Oncology Head is accountable for setting the global strategy for all clinical operations activities within the Oncology portfolio and maintains overall accountability for ensuring delivery to plan and within the target budget for the defined portfolio.?? 

This role will lead the GCO matrix team for the disease area and requires partnering with relevant functional heads in Global Clinical Operations to share portfolio information, establish optimal ways of working, and ensure excellence in achieving key study and program-level milestones (such as study start-up and database lock). Tracking key performance metrics for monthly and annual governance reviews and driving continuous improvement in ways of working are also essential responsibilities.? 

The VP, Global Clinical Operations Oncology Head will provide leadership, oversight, development and direction to the Disease Area Leads, Clinical Operations Asset Leads (COALs), and Third-Party Management Leads setting direction, strategy, digital integration plans and therapy area KPIs.??? 

The role will encompass all GCO pipeline objectives and drive further therapy area efficiencies through close partnership with the cross-functional leaders in the TA, GCO leadership and the support functions within GCD.? 

This role will ensure teams possess the requisite talent and expertise to deliver the pipeline, whether through the internal GSK delivery model or outsourcing to strategic partners. Enhancing relationships with GSK strategic partners is also key to improving delivery, productivity, and vendor performance.? 

Effective partnership with Research Unit leadership teams, Medicine Development Leaders (MDLs)/Early Development Leaders (EDLs), Clinical Sciences, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Commercial, Project Management, Clinical Operations functions, and other senior stakeholders is crucial to embedding solutions that optimise operational delivery of development plans and accelerate cycle times.?? 

This role will be a core member of the GCO Leadership Team, Oncology Research Unit Leadership Team, Development Review Board (DRB), Product Area Leadership Teams (PALTs) and relevant Technical and Clinical Review Forums.? 

Key Responsibilities in Detail 

Lead a global team of Disease Area Leads, Clinical Operations Asset Leads, Third Party Management Leads, to provide leadership and overall delivery of the clinical portfolio. Accountable for the Early and Late Phase strategy and delivery for the TA.? 

Coordinate the Business Development strategic input across GCO and be the single point of contact for Alliance Management when business development opportunities are evaluated, including the GCO accountable person for due diligence.? 

Partner with key Oncology stakeholders to shape the vision and resourcing/delivery strategy to support the clinical portfolio from design through regulatory submission/approvals.? 

Manage, coach, and oversee team members who are accountable for the delivery of clinical development programs working with the key cross-functional leadership teams and project team.? 

Strategic leadership and direction for the global clinical delivery team, ensuring alignment with GSK's R&D objectives and overall company strategy.? 

Identify and share best practices and oversee the implementation of these into business processes.? 

Control and manage the internal budget for global department staff as well as the external project expenditure budget required to deliver the portfolio.? 

Provide strategic leadership, management, and a single point of accountability for all aspects of Oncology Clinical Program Delivery worldwide to ensure delivery of key progression targets and optimum alignment with stakeholders.? 

Embed innovative approaches to drive delivery optimisation and to accelerate development timelines across the life cycle of an asset.? 

Proactively identify and manage risks associated with clinical program delivery. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the successful execution of clinical trials.? 

Create a culture within the organisation that values sharing best practices, fostering a sense of community, identification and development of key talent, innovation and problem-solving in the face of an increasingly challenging environment.?? 

Why You?

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline

Experience in Global Clinical Operations including study/asset leadership, data and site management

Relevant therapeutic area experience in Oncology and/or Hematology

A track record in leading a global project or function where people are challenged and developed

Proven leadership operating in a matrix environment, ability to constructively challenge practices with senior leaders; possess negotiation skills and ability to influence with or without authority at all levels of the organisation??
