ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST II
VANCE, AL
As a member of the EHS Team, the EHS Specialist will provide EHS expertise; structure, and support to the Lear Corporation organization by driving EHS excellence through various means, by effectively coordinating the EHS, and by providing technical and logistical support in the maintenance and continual improvement of the EHS management systems (EHSMS) and in new projects. This would also include the ownership of the EHS reporting requirements. As well as EHS issues to relevant Lear employees, including initial orientations, refresher training and EHS program awareness. The role will also require updating Safety Data Sheets, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, Risk control) / Environmental spread sheet, Safety Audits, Incident investigation, ISO 14001-45001 certification, Management of Change documentation, & Safety Team. Engaging with the production team through EHS Lean tools including but not limited to: Leadership Safety Tours, 8D’s, Risk Assessment-Workshops, Ergonomic Assessment, Updating Safety Alerts, and boards, attending morning routine meetings & Contained Hazards. Must have flexible working hours. This position requires support at the weekends and/or evening hours. Assist with Workers Compensation Matters.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
Assist with implementing and improving the Environmental Impacts for existing operations and new projects.
Support the internal and external audits and the various EHS tours, inspections and assessments including internal auditing for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
Provide technical (legal, regulatory and Lear EHS Directives) expertise and interpretations including sampling and reporting requirements for ongoing operations and new projects.
Drive the EHS Corrective actions/Preventive actions/Suggestion activities to ensure timely completion of desired outcomes. This includes leading a portion of the activities.
Collect/analyze and assess trend data to identify issues and opportunities in the EHS arena.
Develop and deliver training in EHS issues to relevant Lear employees, including initial orientations, refresher training and EHS program awareness.
Perform 2 Leadership Safety Tours a Week, 2 Supervisor Coaching, and update Board and Tracker.
Champion the EHS 8D Process and Board.
Help manage all contactors in the, (ensuring G.W.P. are completed and audited)
Attend morning production meetings daily and submit a report of information collected.
Ensure open items such as the Contained Hazards, Leadership Safety Tours & EHS internal audit action items are closed out or in progress.
Learn how to manage the Plant’s health programs, including participating/conducting investigations for accidents/incidents/near misses.
Maintain records of environmental health and safety inspections, incidents, and training activities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement safety improvements and best practices.
Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans and procedures.
Your Qualifications:
Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOT) in either OH&S or Environment and at least a working knowledge in the other, with practical understanding of the implementation requirements.
Must possess at minimum an associate degree and or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Advanced educational credits. Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field Preferred.
At least 4-5 years of experience working in a manufacturing setting, preferably with specific knowledge and understanding of automated machining, and ergonomics. Knowledge ISO 14001-45001 standard is a plus.
Must have at least 4 years working in an EHS specific role and possess an OSHA 10 upon hire.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required, with the ability to deliver effective training, and interface at all levels of the organization with special consideration for shop floor personnel.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental health and safety software applications.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify hazards and recommend solutions.
