Automation Design Engineers create unique design solutions to meet specific customer requirements for commercial building automation systems in new and existing facilities. Automation Design Engineers also make recommendations for productivity improvements and cost reductions to increase customer satisfaction and job profitability.

As an Automation Design Engineer you will:

Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for higher education and K–12 education facilities, data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high-rise buildings, and lab facilities.
Prepare design documents, including mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts.
Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third-party integration devices connected through Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, or BACnet.
Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks.
Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, etc.
Prepare engineering re-estimates and follow up with appropriate sales and management to ensure understanding of and satisfaction with job scope.
Perform quality assurance; peer-review engineering documents.

Basic Qualifications:

High school diploma or state-recognized GED
Experience in building automation design (HVAC/lighting)

Mid-Level: 3+ years
Senior Level: 5+ years

Ability to travel up to 10%
Ability to design large and complex jobs with some deviation using standard tools, products, and practices
Strong knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations
Proficient in engineering design software or drafting tools
Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license with limited violations

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate or Bachelor’s Degree
7+ years of building automation design experience (HVAC/lighting)
