Director-Safety & Environment (S&E)

The West Point Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Director is responsible for development and execution of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for the West Point, North Wales and Springhouse sites.  Multiple Company Divisions are located at the West Point site. 

The EHS team at West Point supports large molecule manufacturing, research laboratories, clinical manufacturing, facility management and office areas for global teams.  The West Point EHS Director is a member of the West Point Site Leadership team and collaborates with site leadership ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, policies and procedures related to EHS.  As a member of the site leadership team, the EHS Director helps to develop and drive the site strategy.

Responsibilities:

Plan, develop and implement EHS programs to ensure compliance with local, state and federal legislation.  Understand and mitigate risks across environmental, health, safety, and sustainability (EHS&S) opportunities.  Ensure comprehensive change management of all EHS and site initiatives to maintain site compliance.

Drive continuous improvement with respect to adoption of digital solutions and increasing team productivity.

Identify, retain and develop talent.

Manage the team of EHS professionals at the West Point site.

Build network of EHS sponsors within the business, site support functions and global organizations at the site.

Serve as a member of the West Point Site Leadership team and participate in both the strategic planning for the site as well as tactical operation of the site.

Assure completion of required reports for the site with respect to divisional and regulatory agency requirements.

Manage budgetary & capital needs to support EHS initiatives, projects and programs.

Serve as interface with local governmental EHS agencies and insurance carriers.

Collaborate with the Maintenance & Engineering department as well as Facility Management team to evaluate the requirements related to EHS for new projects and processes as well as changes to existing equipment/processes.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering or Physical Science Degree Required

Post-Graduate qualification preferred

CSP, PE, CIH, CQA preferred

Required Experience and Skills:

10+ years EHS or related experience.

Direct responsibility in managing a team of professionals.

Strong project management skills, supporting multiple activities/projects simultaneously.

Experience working with regulatory agencies.

Demonstrated skills in complying with one or more regulatory programs: RCRA, Title V, Process Safety Management (PSM), Industrial Hygiene, BioSafety and High-Risk Work (e.g. elevated work, confined space, hot work, lock out tag out, etc.).

Preferred Experience and Skills:

Demonstrated experience in leading and building a team.

Experience with setting strategy.  Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization on technical issues and multiple priorities. 

Experience implementing a change in an organization - Change Execution Management skills.

Experience working with a unionized work force
