Specific Responsibilities

The Pore Pressure/Geomechanics Sr Advisor for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s Petrophysics team at the company’s Houston office reporting to the Petrophysics Director.

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

• Integrate offset well data, such as wireline logs (sonic, density, resistivity), together with measured pressures and connection gases to generate a pore pressure forecast using established prediction methodologies;  
• Generate real-time predictions of pore pressure and assist well drilling teams in operational decision-making; 
• Ability to use seismic velocity volumes to generate regional pore pressure forecasts (3D pressure volumes and/or 1D extractions at proposed well locations);
• Undertake stress-state and fracture gradient assessments, utilizing data such as wireline logs, mini-frac/leak off tests, lost circulation events, and back-analysis of drilling-induced features seen in image logs;
• Generate required mud weight profiles for planned wells through the analysis and integration of offset log data, drilling data, cavings analysis, image, and caliper log;
• Ability to perform wellbore stability analyses utilizing log, core/cuttings, and seismic data in various geological settings;
• Provide broad petroleum geomechanics support, as required, in the areas of critically stressed fault analysis and induced seismicity risk, lost circulation event remediation and prevention; and
• Mentor and provide pore pressure and geomechanics training to geology and engineering staff.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

•    Minimum 20 years of relevant experience (in drilling PPFG/geomechanics) with an operator or service company
•    Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Science, Geoscience, Geomechanics, or related field
•    Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment and make real-time decisions throughout the drilling process
•    Strong communication, interpersonal, management, administrative, organizational, and leadership skills
•    Be able to work within various teams and present your work to technical staff and management
•    Experience implementing sound decisions when faced with multi-faceted problems
•    Expert knowledge of geomechanical software (Ikon-RokDoc, JewelSuite, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams
