Job Duties and Responsibilities

As a Principal Cloud Engineer at DISH Wireless, you will play a critical role as a thought leader and SME for our enterprise scale environments hosted on the public cloud. You will be part of a fast paced and dynamic engineering team supporting all public cloud platforms. The Staff Cloud Engineer role will support both automation level and resource level incidents. You will help ensure development software workflow and systems management integrate together and achieve the objectives of reliability, flexibility and scalability. 

In this role, you will:

Work in tandem with our internal and external customers to identify and implement proper cloud based solutions.
Demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills
Help ensure cloud compute uptime, scalability, and maintainability.
Champion managing cloud environments in accordance with cloud best practices and security guidelines.
Design/Implement automated backup and recovery of systems running in the cloud environments
Participate in an on-call rotation that provides 24x7 platform support.
Lead vendors through feature tracking and prioritization
Stay technically curious, research and implement new technical solutions
Lead integration with multiple cloud service providers
Participate in design reviews of architecture patterns for service/application deployments on the public cloud
SME for the public cloud platforms
Design  proper HA/DR strategies are implemented and documented
Design Entry/Exit criteria for new software loads/releases migrating through multiple environments
Support FOA/FFI testing and evaluation

Skills, Experience and Requirements
 

A successful Cloud Engineer will have: 

Bachelors or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical degree; six years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
10 or more years experience supporting public cloud platforms
Must have excellent verbal and written communications
Deep understanding of EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, SSM, SG, VPC, R53
Deep understanding  with Infrastructure as code solutions and tools, such as: Ansible, Terraform, and Cloudformation
Deep understanding of DevOps and agile methodologies
10 or more years experience with cloud system integration, support, and automation
Ability to work well under pressure and manage tight deadlines
Proven track record of operational process change and improvement
Deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices
AWS certifications (Professional level and higher) a plus
Kubernetes certifications a plus
