Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support to meet the needs of the manufacturing organization relative to the current elastomer bonding/molding process. This includes analyzing and perfecting elements of the elastomer bonding/molding process, which could include process optimization, tooling design enhancement, and the design and creation of automation to streamline manufacturing.

Key duties include:

Provide daily engineering support in elastomer transfer/injection molding operations including elastomer preparation / testing and adhesive application.
Troubleshoot/support manufacturing issues, render support to local team members through daily gemba walks. 
Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Maintenance to support daily operations.
Work closely with the Product Design Engineering and Materials Engineering teams in Erie, PA to support new process and new product development to ensure manufacturability.
Manage all aspects of engineering projects including budgets, scheduling, and implementation.
Provide manufacturing knowledge at process gates to progress parts through the New Product Introduction Process.
Provide input to tool engineering on new mold designs and ancillary tooling.
Coordinate the completion of manufacturing deliverables, communicate manufacturing risks, and develop BOM’s, routing, and time standards.
Provide Engineering input to aid in process improvement and cost savings.
Support Manufacturing by leading improvements to reduce defects and improve productivity.
Implement and support automated manufacturing process. Occasionally design/develop simple automation (Karakuri, semi-automated solutions)
Work with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration of automation technologies.

Mandatory Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Industrial/Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years of related manufacturing experience
Elastomer processing – milling/testing/bonding/molding
Mechanical system knowledge
Solidworks/Inventor experience
Experience in project or team leadership
Great written and verbal communication
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Great interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently of under direct supervision. 
Capable of reading and interpreting drawings, and able to make simple sketches and drawings to facilitate communication.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment with management and coworkers. 
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is a plus
Strong project management experience

Technical Certificates
SAP Proficiency
Experience with Electrical controls/PLC Programming, is preferred.
Vision System/Robot integration experience, is preferred.
