About the role - you will:

This position is part of the Compliance and Ethics team within Seagate’s Legal, Government Relations and Global Trust & Security Team. You will join a team of diverse, dynamic, smart and motivated attorneys and other legal, government relations and security professionals situated in our offices around the globe, practicing cross-functionally in a variety of legal, government relations and security specialties.

In this new role within the Compliance and Ethics team, you will assist with the ongoing development of Seagate’s global trade compliance program working closely with Seagate’s Trade Compliance Senior Corporate Counsel to advise the business on complex trade compliance matters and to drive strategic enterprise-wide trade compliance initiatives to improve and mature Seagate’s trade compliance program.

Your responsibilities will focus on:

Advise regarding day-to-day trade compliance contractual issues, including supporting internal stakeholders, and conducting negotiations with third parties
Work with Contracts team to send & track completion of forms
Support development and implementation of strategic projects relating to key risk areas such as export controlled technologies  
Conduct legal due diligence for transaction and business partner risk management
Review and advise regarding encryption notification/registration issues
Lead import/customs review and advice
Collaborate with International Trade Administration team on export licensing activity
Support trade compliance training program
Participate in the work of internal regulatory and compliance committees
Develop, lead, and implement policies, processes, training and standard operating procedures relating to trade compliance. Drive awareness of trade compliance initiatives, including facilitating and leading change management programs, and developing and delivering training
Perform/assist with risk assessments. Engage and monitor ongoing collaboration with other internal teams. Document compliance roadmaps. Execute risk management strategies
Research and stay abreast of relevant compliance subject matters, regulations and best practices
Provide support to wider Compliance & Ethics Program and other regulatory matters including product compliance as required

Your experience includes:

Strong compliance and governance experience in trade compliance particularly in the in-house environment
An engineering background particularly with knowledge of and experience in emerging technologies, network and cyber security, cloud computing, and online and mobile applications would be very advantageous for this role
Demonstrated experience designing, managing and executing large-scale, enterprise-wide projects
Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and ability to work cross-functionally, including with executive and management-level colleagues
A proactive, self-starter with ability to resolve a wide range of issues or questions in creative ways
Highly organized with a commitment to high quality deliverables and a keen attention to detail
Keen interest and desire for continued professional development and learning. Candidates may have compliance/governance certifications, though these are not a prerequisite
Juris Doctorate and bar admission as well as 8 - 10 years of experience
