Job Summary

Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

We are seeking candidates for Legal Counsel to join our Legal team in Alaska.

Job Description

Your responsibilities may include:

Provide legal advice and, when necessary, manage outside legal services, on various claims/litigation, administrative law, commercial, regulatory and strategic planning issues that may affect the Company, especially in relation to exploration, production and pipeline environmental, health and safety matters
Draft, review and negotiate legal agreements involving current operations, regulatory compliance and new business opportunities
Collaborate with senior management and various operations personnel including participation in project and asset teams
Represent the Company in external contacts with other parties including industry organizations, asset co-owners, agencies, and outside counsel as required
Participate on the Incident Management Team as required and attend IMT Trainings and annual exercises

Basic/Required:

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or foreign equivalent
Licensed by state law to practice in Alaska, or a state that grants reciprocity with Alaska
5+ years of direct experience in oil and gas law, regulatory law relevant to the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry, and handling oil and gas industry-related litigation/administrative appeal matters

Preferred:

7+ years of direct experience in oil and gas law (upstream and midstream)
3+ years experience with Alaska state law or federal law specific to Alaska, relevant to the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry
3+ years experience in practice before EPA, USF&WS, ADEC or other similar regulatory agencies
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Strong initiative along with excellent communication and analytical skills
Ability to handle multiple projects and work in a team environment

Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
