PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Installs, inspects, performs diagnostics and overhauls all types of equipment including compressors, blowers, pumps, fans, valves, and associated auxiliary equipment. This includes complete disassembly, machining, and reassembly of equipment. Rebuilds, repairs, or fabricates parts to repair plant equipment, using various machine shop equipment, lathes, milling machines, radial drill presses, and precision measurement tools. Tests machinery after making repairs using various diagnostic testing of equipment. Works from engineering drawings and field measurements. Contacts vendors to order materials for equipment for repair, maintenance and installation of new units. Is familiar with applicable codes and standards as they apply to job discipline. Designs and makes special tools when necessary. Interprets blueprints and written specifications. Plans work using knowledge of shop mathematics, charts and tables. Repairs or replaces defective pipe and fittings on mechanical equipment. Performs rigging operations in connection with repair of plant equipment. Operates Company passenger cars, trucks and plant mobile equipment such as crane truck, forklift trucks, and tractors. Removes and installs insulation on piping, valves and other equipment, as required. Is familiar with and navigates various software applications including Maintenance Management System software for initiating maintenance and archiving equipment information. Maintains current knowledge of plant system functions including maintenance work practices and divisional safe work practices. Escorts contractors working in BGE's gas facilities to provide access to equipment and communicate work scope and safe work practices. Required to work at various locations and in all types of weather conditions. Maybe required to handle (not transport off site) hazardous material and must be able to satisfy US Department of Transportation's requirements and training. Subject to U.S. Dept. of Transportation required chemical screening. Must meet qualifications for respirator use.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Four years of formal training and work experience in machine shop work and machinery repair.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skills/Abilities: Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards. This position is considered a safety sensitive function and may be subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing. Must complete all required Operator Qualification training and maintain recertifications as required. Must be able to pass a CDL physical and obtain CDL medical card but is not required to obtain CDL. Required to meet CFR 192 and 193 operator qualifications and LMS job profile training. Must be able to pass a Department of Homeland and Security background check. Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language. Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime, if and when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement.
