Key Accountabilities

To direct CAT Modelling and Exposure Management activities across Property and Marine lines ensuring excellent Cat modelling service levels, accuracy, and timeliness
To oversee and enhance end-to-end CAT modelling/data capture processes, best practice modelling guidelines & data standards, maintaining up-to-date documentation
To drive process efficiencies and automation by embedding technology within the Terra and Risk Visualization Tool (RVT) platforms
To manage and train outsourcing partners in line with Argo’s internal standards
To ensure CAT modelling data standards are understood, monitored, and acted upon
To provide a Cat modelling education program for underwriters and analysts
To make recommendations at an account level to drive Underwriting Margin
To provide expert advice to support effective Exposure Management at class and operating entity level.
To ensure all deliverables needed for Group Cat rollups and regulatory returns are provided in an accurate and timely fashion.
To support the development and implementation of Argo’s View of Risk.
To provide portfolio optimization and actionable analytics to support the delivery of Argo’s Property objectives and to inform future strategy
To provide key inputs to the business planning process from an exposure perspective and to produce the modelled pro formas for reinsurance purchasing.
To support the pre and post event exposure and loss modelling process
To leverage Reinsurance Broker capabilities where appropriate
To represent Argo at external forums, market bodies and conferences
To automate processes, leveraging digital solutions and programming capabilities.

Organizational Accountabilities

Data Requirements:

To execute all key Argo US modeling deliverables at the required frequency and quality
To execute all key exposure management reporting at entity level and support producing the Group deliverables.
To provide timely, accurate and consistent Event Loss reports to the Event Response Group
To report to Property LOB Working Group and Group Exposure Management Committee

Communications:

To assist the key stakeholders in aligning Argo modelling and exposure management, ensuring a globally consistent approach, and influencing future strategy
To assist the Application Support team with the ongoing development of the portfolio management platforms (Terra and (RVT)  and other tools that ensure automation of EM processes.
To proactively engage with stakeholders including local face-to-face meetings

Strategy and stakeholder management:

To collaborate closely with underwriting leaders to improve risk selection and portfolio constitution.
To develop and communicate CAT modelling strategy effectively to key stakeholders.
To participate in the selection of third-party models
To evaluate new model versions and report impact of portfolios
To travel to Argo offices and attend leadership meetings where necessary.

Skills/Competencies

Modeling skills - Prepare and format risk information for direct input into cat models (RMS/Katrisk) on a timely basis. 
Technical skills – Automate data extract and reporting. Have good knowledge of SQL, Power BI, VBA, R/Python.
Influencing skills – having an engaging and credible approach, capable of building trust. Adapts style to suit cultural and environmental differences.
Leadership – high level of enthusiasm and vision with which to inspire others.

Qualifications

Excellent academic qualifications including a university degree.
Strong mathematical, modelling, technical background
Insurance qualifications are desirable.

Technical Skills & Experience

Minimum 10 year’s catastrophe modelling experience
Considerable experience modelling Property, Marine and Energy lines
Fluent in a variety of third-party vendor models, RMS essential.
Experience of/proficiency in the use of mapping software e.g., QGIS, Spatial Key etc.
Power BI dashboard development is essential.
High level Excel skills
Understanding of relational Databases
Strong programming and technical skills e.g., SQL, VBA, Power BI, Snowflake, Tableau, Alteryx, Web Design.
Technology implementation and process automation from a modelling perspective
Interacting face-to-face with Underwriters, Exposure Management, and other internal parties.
Managerial experience desirable but not essential
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders hierarchically and geographically.
Experience of outwards reinsurance and capital modelling
