Job Description

SUMMARY

This role is a maintenance technician role that may be focused on people, process and/or systems as it pertains to the upkeep and/or repair of all plant processes, systems, buildings, and production equipment.  The Maintenance Technician’s ability to respond by use of effective mechanical, electrical, process or support systems skills is critical for success in this position. The position also works to eliminate failures resulting in downtime having a direct impact on the plant and the overall available operating systems

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Comply with Westlake safety policies and procedures
Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility
Provide safety leadership in promoting and creating a zero-injury safety culture.
Ability to solve practical mechanical/process problems and work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to understand and follow verbal, written, or diagram instructions
Communicate with shift supervisors, and other line support regarding maintenance issues
Ensure proper performance of all plant maintenance processes/systems and production equipment through effective use of planning, troubleshooting and/or diagnostics skills.
Ensure proper preventative maintenance on all plant systems and production equipment to maximize machine uptime
Ensure compliance with all maintenance processes and work being performed
Assist in determining necessary actions to address quality issues on molds, stones, and production equipment, as necessary.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Housekeeping standards
Attend huddle meetings
Complete assigned work orders
Ensure compliance with all maintenance work being performed
Keep maintenance leadership informed of maintenance issues
Generates work orders and closes them out in CMMS
Professional craftsmanship
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Perform at an acceptable level as required to meet or exceed daily safety, quality, and productivity standards
Maintain a clean and orderly work area to ensure facility meets department standards

Mechanical/electrical troubleshooting
Blueprint/ diagram reading  
Familiar with PLC’s
Ability to fabricate components using machine tools, welder, torch, and metal working tools
Safely operate mobile equipment (i.e. forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, etc.)
Ability to work well with others and take lead of projects

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent is required
Two or more years of maintenance work experience and/or training in an industrial environment.
Experience maintaining industrial equipment (i.e., conveyors, gear boxes, hydraulic, extrusion, water systems, pumps, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Be exposed to temperature extremes inside or out
Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable
Prolong standing or in stationary position for up to 12 hours performing shift work
Complete repetitive movements
Bend or twist
Wear all required personal protective equipment
Work in constant noise above 85 decibels
Handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls
Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
Ascend or descend stairs

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES

Operate a computer or other keyboard instrument
Proficient with Microsoft suite
CAD experience desired
