Job Description

ENGIE North America is Searching for a Water Treatment Engineer I for our location at the beautiful University of Iowa Campus in Iowa City, IA. Supporting operations and leadership at the Domestic Water Plant and High Quality Water Services Group through conceptualizing improvements, reviewing designs, and overseeing construction of reliability and energy savings projects. Contribute to development and execution of water treatment plans, focusing on water quality, safety, corrosion and biological growth control, and chemical cost reduction. Develop and deliver status reports on critical utility components and systems. Build and use reports from operational data to formulate action plans to address issues and opportunities. Help ensure that system redundancies in pumping, piping, controls, and process are maintained or enhanced. Provide input to controls programmers to continually drive improvement in controllability of processes and enhance the collection of key data points to establish alarming and facilitate analytics. Provide training to operations staff relevant to new equipment and water treatment principles.

What you'll do:

Work with Engie employees and vendors to track chemical usage and estimate spending based on forecast
Assist with development and implementation of specific chemical programs to achieve water treatment needs
Assist in tracking make-up water and potential leaks on campus to identify root cause and repair
Support small construction projects within production plants such as replacing pipe, pumps, motors, valves or insulation
Interfaces frequently with ENGIE CAPEX team and University of Iowa Design and Construction to provide key input to design projects and prepare to provide support to projects when required
Work with utilities maintenance supervisor to improve our spare parts inventory and locations, focusing on identifying and retaining critical spares
Assist in specifying replacement equipment in the case of obsolescence due to technological advances
Read and interpret applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements governing design and operation of domestic water treatment systems and water quality requirements
Supports full compliance with corporate safety program and promotes safety culture
Other duties as assigned

What you bring:

Bachelor of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering is preferred; other engineering disciplines acceptable if accompanied by real world experience with water treatment or water conveyance systems
Experience operating a lime softening drinking water plant a plus
Experience with reverse osmosis systems a plus
Five years of experience with design, construction or operation of utility water production and treatment systems preferred
Iowa Water Plant Operator Grade 2 or higher license is a plus
Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to gain licensure within 1 year is a plus

Demonstrated knowledge of water treatment requirements and methods for domestic water production, and/or corrosion control in utility systems
Knowledge of enhanced lime softening and reverse osmosis treatment processes
Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to troubleshoot and maintain utility piping systems
Knowledge of the trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused conditions
Ability to maintain records and system documentation
Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
Ability to analyze system problems, recommend and implement system changes
