The Zillow Group Legal and Compliance Department is a dedicated team of skilled (and fun!) Legal professionals who enjoy working in a collegial environment within an innovative, fast-paced tech, real estate, and media company. This role is part of the Business Lines Legal Team, which provides the frontline support for Zillow’s products and services.

About the role

We are looking for an outstanding product attorney to join our Business Lines Legal Team. This attorney will be responsible for a broad range of legal matters, with a focus on real estate portal legal compliance, data licensing and real estate industry rules and regulations. This attorney will provide legal subject matter expertise to partners across Zillow on the policies and rules of the National Association of Realtors® (“NAR”), local and state associations, and Multiple Listing Services (“MLSs”), as well as regulatory and legal matters impacting how these organizations govern the industry. This attorney will be expected to quickly develop a strong understanding of these rules and how they relate to Zillow’s products and strategic initiatives, and deliver sound legal guidance on proactive and reactive strategies for emerging issues. This attorney will also provide legal support to product teams on listing data rights and key initiatives that require guidance on industry rules and data license agreements.

Equally important, this attorney will be expected to offer creative solutions to nuanced, novel, and complex issues, communicate proactively and effectively, and build strong, collaborative relationships with both clients and colleagues.

In this role, you will get to:

Serve as a legal POC and SME for industry rules and data licenses governing Zillow’s real estate brokerage, websites/apps, and related products and services

Partner with business teams and legal colleagues on key initiatives and product changes that require guidance on compliant use and display of real estate listings data

Provide legal guidance to Industry Relations team on strategies for emerging issues, including engagement with regulators, NAR, MLSs, and other governing bodies in the real estate industry

Monitor external industry-related litigations and enforcement actions and support cross-functional assessment of potential impacts to Zillow products and services

Provide legal guidance to Property Data org on data governance matters

Advise on impacts and implementation of new industry rules

Provide legal support for data license strategy, drafting, analysis, and implementation

Provide ad-hoc support on new rule drafting and related industry lobbying efforts

Provide ad-hoc support and SME to Government Relations, Litigation, Comms and other shared services on industry-related matters

Support and partner with legal team colleagues on other real estate related regulatory and legal matters
