Job Description

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

This position leads the organization in process control, continuous improvement, and special initiatives in support of both Construction & Design Services and Transmission functions. 

Additionally, this role provides oversite, management, and support of the implementation of the Project Lifecycle Management Process (PLMP) for both Transmission and Distribution.  Responsible for identifying and executing Continuous Improvement projects across Construction & Design Services and FE Transmission. Manages in the implementation of the Strategic Plans for the organization.  Develops and maintain key metrics and reports to track the performance of the organization. 

Candidates must have a willingness to travel throughout the FirstEnergy system which may include periodic overnight stays.

Responsibilities include:

Developing, coaching, and mentoring a team of continuous improvement professionals.
Providing strategic vision of process improvements to develop overall best practices.
Monitoring, tracking, and reporting on overall team progress.
Proactively supporting continuous improvement efforts through a methodology that highlights potential opportunities flagged by employees, business insights or market intelligence/research
Acting as a change agent, by assisting initiative owners in identifying resources, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to aid in the transformation efforts.
Supporting and encouraging initiative owners to engage in collaborative planning to build roadmap/milestones/workplan, identify specific scope (and scope gaps), release cycles/timings (if applicable), diagraming/process flows, initiative precursors, initiative dependencies, and any potential risks.
Responsible for ensuring workplans and milestones capture the appropriate steps of the CI process, with frequent communications to stay engaged.
Driving collaboration, predictability, and ownership of initiative owners/milestone owners/product owners.
Supporting and encouraging critical thinking through workshops, design sessions and an “agile” methodology.
Driving analytics through the support of data and insights to support strategic decisions and initiative success.
Utilizing data to increase efficiency, manage risks, drive quality, allocate resources and establish real time metrics to support decision making and increase visibility.
Maintaining awareness of key benchmarking and market/industry specific areas of interest.
Working across FE on improvement efforts and collaborate on continuous improvement effort to remove silos and ensure progress.

Qualifications include:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction, or Project Management with 7 years of experience preferred. Consideration will be given to non-degreed candidates with over 10 years of experience related to project/portfolio management.
Previous supervisory and/or project lead experience preferred.
Broad knowledge of Utility Operations and demonstrated experience with continuous improvement preferred.
Experience applying CI practices in industry. Six Sigma / Lean certification from a recognized granting authority is desired.
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with development and implementation of continuous improvements technologies including database management.
Experience in process/project development, planning/analysis, and performance reporting is desired.
Highly driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic leader capable of communicating, motivating, and driving others toward achieving desired results.
Ability to adapt to and appropriately assign and oversee a wide range of project requests, from highly defined to highly ambiguous.
Diverse knowledge of FE work practices, processes, and technologies in areas including safety, operations, finance, reliability, and customer service preferred.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and to building effective working relationships with staff, peers, end-users, and executive leadership required.
Demonstrated forward-thinking in closing performance gaps and evaluating project assignments for employee growth and advancement.
Exceptional relationship management, leadership, teamwork, and managerial skills are required Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and the ability to lead others in achieving goals.
