Job Summary:
The Billing Account Specialist I position is responsible for maintaining the governmental and franchise gas accounts for Nicor Gas. As well as to provide support to billing services for Gas Transportation accounts in IL and multiple GAS companies (both regulated and non-regulated) in GA. Services provided include but are not limited to: Customer account maintenance, Billing Verification, Data Reports (Running, Maintenance and Analysis), Billing Large Industrial and Commercial Accounts (Major Accounts), Infrastructure Damages, Third Party Suppliers.
Any of these can and will be done daily, monthly, or yearly.
Responsibilities also include department project participation and support, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws (including SOX controls), regulations and ordinances; unclaimed property filings and process, maintaining regulatory relationships; developing and meeting key performance indicators and regulatory service levels.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
· Basic accounting understanding
· Analyzes, researches, and resolves outstanding items/issues.
· Monitors Reports/Data/Accounts/Expenses; adjusts as necessary.
· Works with customers (internal and external) to resolve problems; answers questions and provides recommendations on behalf of management.
· Analyzes gas usage on accounts and financial information relating to specialty areas (e.g., billing/franchise, cash accounting)
· Generates standard and non-standard reports; analyzes reports and provides recommendations.
· Serves as subject matter expert, provides continuous process improvement suggestions.
· Develops training materials/guidebooks and performs internal customer training related to Southern Company Gas procedures and internal controls.
Education and Experience:
Required:
· BA/BS degree in Accounting
· 2-4 years experience analyzing billing/accounting activities
Or
· Equivalent academic education and experience
Preferred:
· BA/BS Degree in Business, Technology, Finance, or Accounting
