To help keep up with our growing journalism functions we’re adding a senior, strategically minded financial professional to help lead the Newsroom FP&A function. This Manager role will lead consolidations for the Newsroom finance team, as well as provide financial stewardship and analysis for distinct areas of the Newsroom. It will also help lead projects focused on strategic initiatives and priorities. This role reports to the Director of FP&A, News Finance and will embed in the newsroom with the Newsroom Strategy group.
Responsibilities:
Helping to continue the evolution of our Newsroom operation by providing world class FP&A support for leadership, with a focus on strategic analysis and presentation
Being a strategic partner to the masthead and department heads to support data-driven decision making
Developing analysis and modeling leveraging our Data Insights team to establish KPIs; helping to assess performance and to identify and evaluate investment opportunities
Assist in Newsroom’s financial transformation and adoption of Workday Financials and Adaptive planning
Advancing key reporting on the Newsroom’s financial and operational performance on a monthly and quarterly basis
Preparing quarterly forecasts
Helping drive the newsroom’s annual strategic planning and budgeting process
Partnering with Newsroom Strategy on ad-hoc projects to provide key analytical inputs to support decision making
Partnering with the broader company-wide Strategy and FP&A groups on key strategic and operational initiatives
Interacting with a number of key partners, including corporate FP&A, Newsroom Strategy, and NYT Masthead.
Basic Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
5+ years of experience in finance, strategy, or consulting roles.
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA a plus
FP&A experience
Experience in a digital subscription content business such as news or entertainment involving original production
A creative analytical mindset, with an ability to identify opportunities, solve problems and shape decisions through the application and analysis of data, including proficiency building complex financial models
Deep intellectual curiosity; excitement and eagerness for delving into complex challenges and opportunities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, mastery of Microsoft excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets) and PowerPoint
Experience with Workday Financials and Adaptive Planning
Understanding of and interest in the media landscape and The Times’s place in it, including a sharp grasp of our challenges and opportunities along with ideas for how to approach them
