From energy efficiency and electric transportation to customer satisfaction, market research and opportunity identification, Southern Company Business & Marketing Intelligence analysts use their research, analysis, and communication skills to support broad company initiatives for the Southern Company system including Alabama Power, Georgia Power, and Mississippi Power. We are looking for analysts who are:

Curious, creative, and have a passion for client service

Quick learners and able to identify new data sources, tools, and approaches

Comfortable self-teaching and becoming a fast expert on new topics

Able to take initiative for a project and have the tenacity to go beyond surface level research to connect the details to the larger strategy

Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and can balance multiple projects to meet tight deadlines

Experienced synthesizing large amounts of data into clear and concise presentations, white papers, and summaries to share with diverse audiences (internal and external customers, peers, and management)

Strong communicators that can distill technical or complex content and make it relevant to clients

Self-starters, flexible, and able to manage changing priorities and deadlines with minimal direction

This position may be based out of Birmingham, AL or Atlanta, GA . Remote opportunities are not available at this time.

What you’ll do (job responsibilities)

Learn company strategies, supply chains, market trends and drivers, and financial and economic concepts

Consult with internal and external business partners to define the scope of research requests

Apply project and time management skills to balance multiple, changing priorities

Utilize tools, research, and internal resources to identify and analyze data to turn information into knowledge and make recommendations

Utilize strong communication skills to develop presentations that clearly communicate complex, technical data in an engaging and approachable manner

Work independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team

Foster strong relationships with clients and peers

What you’ll bring (qualifications)

Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in library science, research, or related field highly preferred

Demonstrated experience with research and analysis

Experience with corporate and business research is a plus

Experience with sector, industry, market, and economic research is a plus

Proficiency in all MS Office products and similar products; especially, applications to analyze data, produce written and visuals products, and effectively communicate and collaborate with team members

The Southern Company, through its subsidiaries, engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity. It operates in four segments: Gas Distribution Operations, Gas Pipeline Investments, Wholesale Gas Services, and Gas Marketing Services. The company also constructs, acquires, owns, and manages power generation assets, including renewable energy facilities and sells electricity in the wholesale market; and distributes natural gas in Illinois, Georgia, Virginia, and Tennessee, as well as provides gas marketing services, wholesale gas services, and gas pipeline investments operations. It owns and/or operates 33 hydroelectric generating stations, 26 fossil fuel generating stations, 3 nuclear generating stations, 13 combined cycle/cogeneration stations, 40 solar facilities, 9 wind facilities, and 1 biomass facility; and constructs, operates, and maintains 75,200 miles of natural gas pipelines and 14 storage facilities with total capacity of 158 Bcf to provide natural gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The company serves approximately 9 million electric and gas utility customers.

It also provides products and services in the areas of distributed generation infrastructure, energy efficiency, and utility infrastructure. In addition, the company offers digital wireless communications services with various communication options, including push to talk, cellular service, text messaging, wireless Internet access, and wireless data. The Southern Company was founded in 1945 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
