Job Description

JOB REQUIREMENTS

This position is responsible for routine and emergency diagnostic testing of major substation equipment in accordance with SCT maintenance standards. This includes infrared testing of substations and commissioning of substation equipment. This position is responsible for analyzing test results and recommending corrective action to the appropriate party. This position is also responsible for maintaining an accurate database of all test results.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Two-year technical degree in Electricity, Electronics, Electronic Technology or a related technical field is desired but not required.

Five years of experience in electrical utility maintenance, testing and installation is desired.

Ability to learn to use various test equipment and instruments with the ability to perform a basic calibration/evaluation of the equipment used by different maintenance departments within MPC is required.

Proficiency with computers desired (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to learn substation specific and vendor testing software required.

Must be a self-starter. Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.

Must have the interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with other work groups inside and outside the company and with vendors and product manufacturers as needed.

Must exhibit a positive attitude, understand and follow safety procedures, demonstrate effective communication skills (oral & written), possess effective customer relations skills and show initiative and leadership in work.

Other Requirements:

Must be willing to perform work outside of normal working hours during emergencies or as otherwise needed to support substation construction or maintenance efforts.

Must be willing to work outside in all climate conditions, work at significant heights above the ground and on occasion work in confined spaces.

Must successfully pass the TECH test to be considered.

The successful candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within the Northern Division (reasonable commuting distance between Hattiesburg, Laurel, and Meridian areas).
