Job Description

The majority of positions will be located in Omaha (NE), however a small number could be needed in Kansas City (MO), or Spring (TX). All training will take place in Omaha, NE for up to the first 6 months before release to a permanent location.

Permanent location placement will be dependent on successful candidate's current residence and business needs.

Union Pacific Train Dispatchers collectively handle over 30,000 miles of track and coordinate the movement of more than 800 trains and thousands of field employees throughout our rail network! Our Train Dispatchers direct the safe transportation of freight and commuter trains throughout our railroad. As a Train Dispatcher, you will assess and implement the transportation plan of moving trains through varying weather conditions, topography, and rail construction projects. Train Dispatchers are strong communicators who thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Accountabilities

Direct train movement and accurate routing of trains
Use computers and internal systems to direct train movements to meet operational goals
Actively collaborate with other train dispatchers, train and engine crews, maintenance personnel, Sr. Leadership, and other critical team members.
Adapt to any unforeseen situations that affect train movement
Comply with all applicable safety regulations and rules as required by Federal Law
Complete documentation required for train movements, track assignments, and other events
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

A high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED)

Physical Requirements

Must have normal color vision
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee will spend extended hours in front of a computer screen

Work Conditions

confirm that in the past 36 months, and in connection with the operating of a motor vehicle, you have not had any of the following: (1) the suspension, revocation, cancellation, or denial of your driver's license in an incident involving drugs or alcohol; (2) your participation in diversion or probation, or a guilty plea, in a drug or alcohol-related driving incident; OR (3) you refused to take a drug or alcohol test
confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
understand that individuals hired to work in this position will be expected to work at their desk for more than half of each work day. Periodic 5-10 minute breaks are allowed, but employees must remain in the building throughout the entire work day.
understand that a 3 year commitment to this position is required upon successful completion of the training program
understand that individuals hired to work in this position will be expected to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
18 years of age or older
