As a Principal System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities include:
Analysis of engineering hardware, electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance
Work with test, tactical operating and maintenance procedures to assure proper administrative controls are in place
Work across all integrated product teams to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Key Responsibilities include:
Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
Managing a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including:
Monitoring program technical execution,
Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
Conducting Safety Analyses and documenting results (Preliminary Hazards List/Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Hazard Tracking Logs, Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Assessment Report)
Documenting hazards and maintain Hazard Tracking System
This role is posted as Hybrid, with work both onsite in Portsmouth, RI and remote. Commuting costs to and from the Portsmouth, RI RTX facility are the responsibility of the incumbent.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically Requires: Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience OR an Associate’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience. In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
Employment Experience:
Experience with: System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering experience in areas which may include Aerospace, Automotive or Medical Device.
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
Experience with DoD System Safety Programs
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety
program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
Experience performing system safety analyses in accordance with MIL-HDBK-882E
Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
