THE OPPORTUNITY

Our location in KANSAS CITY currently has an opportunity for a SENIOR SITE RELIABILITY ENGINEER within our Toxicology business unit, TO BE FILLED IN KANSAS CITY OR REMOTELY IN THE UNITED STATES. 

The Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is a creative operations professional who defines and implements Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Systems Integration, and IT technical solutions. Key areas include code repository management, database object synchronization, environment configuration management, release management, continuous integration/delivery, application load management, and IT architecture design (cloud and on-prem).  The SRE strives to create efficiency, enforce accuracy, and use technological innovation to streamline processes and systems that are scalable and resilient.  The SRE focuses on optimizing existing systems, and building infrastructure that reduces work through automation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Responds to production incidents and determining how we can prevent them in the future
Identify process and infrastructure gaps and implement process improvements to increase operational reliability
Triage and troubleshoots complex production issues to ensure reliability and performance
Partner with other SREs to bring best practices or learnings from across the organization to them
Pioneering, promoting, and partnering with others to apply best practices for building scalable and reliable services across engineering
Participates in design discussions, review sessions and prototyping
Builds and supports infrastructure and software in Microsoft Azure and On-Prem Environments
Continually monitors cloud architecture for cost overruns and identifies solutions to prevent them
Produces and Manages Infrastructure as code
Works with software development teams to design reliability and scalability into solutions
Manages Development, QA, and Production environment configuration
Informs and manages the design and architecture for network and storage implementations in Development, QA, and Production environments
Collaborate closely with Developers/Solution Architects to ensure a designed solution responds to non-functional requirements such as availability, performance and maintainability
Researches and implements new technology and practices
Serves as final escalation path in application, server, network, and systems level troubleshooting for issues resulting in negative customer impact
Actively pursues collaboration, open communication and cross-functional participation
Works with Application Development, Systems Administration, Operations Support, Cloud Engineering, and Networking teams to improve monitoring mechanisms to react to application failures before they are reported as well as determining and solving for the root cause of those failures
Educates team members on DevOps processes, systems, and workflows
Will be required to work nights and weekends as needed to support releases for production deployments during scheduled maintenance windows
Possess a strong security first mindset in ensuring that applications and systems are secure by default in all steps of the lifecycle.
Supports various Agile Teams
Seasoned professional contributor with responsibility for an advanced area of work in the professional field
May assume technical lead role on projects and may provide technical direction to Application Development, Systems Administration, Operations Support, and Networking teams
Travel expected rarely for this position

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related degree, or equivalent work experience
Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps, Release Management Tools
Experience with Windows Server Configuration Management
Experience in IIS Configuration Management
Experience in designing and configuring network load balancing appliances such as F5
Experience in systems and network level troubleshooting
Demonstrated ability to set and meet tight deadlines and function well under pressure
Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment
Strong problem-solving skills
Proficient writing infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform
Linux/Windows administration, automated deployments, scripting (Bash/Powershell/Python)

PREFERRED

Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Has managed infrastructure services in a production environment to ensure high availability and reliability
Proven experience operating highly-automated, mission-critical 24/7 production systems
Knowledge of MS SQL Server and RedGate SQL Tools
