JOB SUMMARY-
The Security Officer position is responsible for protecting Georgia Power employees, contractors, visitors and property. Enforce and administer established rules, procedures, and appropriate laws. Respond to alarms and security requests for security services. Process personnel for access authorization to Plant Yates in accordance with established procedures. Interpret procedures and regulations and be able to make decisions regarding plant access control.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience Requirements:
Must possess and/or obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license
Experience in the military, law enforcement, corrections, or armed security with a strong background in customer service and external relations preferred
Knowledge of the criminal justice system is desired
Computer experience – ability to proficiently use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Fluency in Spanish a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to learn and enforce plant security policies and procedures as required
Ability to learn and/or have knowledge of company policies, procedures, Local, State and Federal criminal laws and their application to private security
Ability to learn and/or have knowledge of power plant operations
Ability to administer basic first aid/CPR
Possess strong oral and written communication skills, problem solving skills, decision making skills, and negotiating skills
Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy
Possess strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service

Other Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age
Must meet all local, State and Federal requirements pertaining to the issuance of a firearm and there application to private security
Must be able to obtain an Armed Security Officer License issued by the State Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies
Must be able to pass a background check for the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies
- Must be able to pass a State mandated private security officer training
- Must pass the following job prerequisites: company psychological test, physical, background investigation, and drug test
Must successfully complete the required tests associated with this position
Must qualify for firearm use and re-qualify with semiautomatic pistol and pump action shotgun at least twice annually (day and night firing qualifications) with a minimum passing score of 80% or better
Individual will be required to be sprayed with O.C. Pepper Spray during training
- Must be able to work rotating shifts: days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Must be able and willing to work in severe weather conditions
