Job Description

Collins Aerospace currently has an opening for a Director of Wheels & Brakes Engineering.  This individual will be reporting to the Executive Director of Landing Systems Engineering, leading a team of approximately 110 individuals across 4 sites.

The Director will lead the shared engineering functions within the Wheels & Brakes business that include Analytical Methods and Technologies, Carbon Engineering, a Chief’s Office, System Integration Engineering, Material & Process Technologies, and the Product Development & Qualification Test lab.

Hybrid: Role will be based in Troy, OH.  Must reside within a commutable distance to site, working a hybrid schedule reporting to the site as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

Plan and manage the annual and multi-year engineering budgets, inclusive of R&D and capital planning
Ensure resource and skill alignment to support the W&B commercial and military value stream organizational targets, strategies and execution
Set R&D portfolio priorities and strategy to realize profitable business growth and technical differentiation of W&B products and services
Champion technical excellence and define operating norms for flawless engineering execution, driving continuous improvement and adoption of state-of-the-art digital engineering methods and tools
Foster and drive empowerment and inclusion, coach and develop a diverse workforce
Support Commercial and Military W&B Value Stream leaders in developing strategies and winning proposals for new business growth

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 14 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 18 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

Business knowledge, general management and leadership capabilities to lead large, interdisciplinary engineering teams
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead geographically dispersed teams, located across multiple sites
Customer engagement & interaction experience
Experience with New Product Development (NPD)/New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, Product Support and Sustaining Engineering
Experience working cross functionally with Value Streams/Program Management, Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, etc.
