Overview
D342 Laboratory Services is seeking two supervisors with strong leadership qualities to oversee Electric Boats chemistry laboratories. The successful candidates will require strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. The individuals will interact with both laboratory staff, managements, and departments across the company. Laboratory Services support is regularly requested on off-shifts and weekends so the supervisors must be prepared to staff and support accordingly.
These positions will be responsible for supervision of the EB chemistry laboratories, which include the following: Gas chromatography, DSS-SOC, Environmental, Metals Analysis, Nuclear Water Chemistry, Oil and Clean Room Services, and Quonset Point Lab Services. The division of the laboratories will be determined based on the strengths and experiences of the two successful candidates. The laboratories are responsible for the analyses and evaluations of a wide array of sample types and varying customers, including but not limited to Engineering, ERM, Receipt Inspection, STO, NTO, Ships Management, and Operations.
The supervisors are responsible for overall oversight and performance of the laboratories, which includes the training and proficiency of laboratory technicians, development and maintenance of procedures, maintenance and purchasing of equipment, staffing, the quality of analyses, reports, overall outputs, budgetary performance, metrics, safety, and full support of the customer base. Moreover, the supervisors are also responsible to assure successful participation in audits conducted by NAVSEA, Naval Reactors, SUPSHIP, and the State of Connecticut, and developing plans to assure Laboratory Services support of shipyard key events is uninterrupted.

The applicants must be able to communicate clearly and concisely to all levels of management, both verbally and in writing, and it is expected that the applicant is able to write technical reports and correspondences using good grammar with correct spelling and punctuation.
Applicants must be personable, interested in working as part of a team, interested in learning, willing to consult with coworkers, comfortable in interacting directly both with hourly technicians and with upper management, and cultivating a positive environment.
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
Qualifications
Required:
BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar
Minimum 3 years of experience in a position that frequently focuses on chemistry
A foundation in or understanding of analytical chemistry
Strong familiarity with analysis specifications (MIL, ASTM, ASM, fed specs, etc.)
Leadership experience
Experience in a laboratory environment
Preferred:
A degree in Analytical Chemistry
Previous experience in laboratory oversight
Understanding of several analytical chemistry techniques and associated equipment such as ICP-MS, ICP-OES, various LECO machines, XRF, oil particle counts, dew point meters, and GC-MS
