Westlake is offering an opportunity to apply your experience and skills as a High Voltage Electrician based in Plaquemine, LA. This position will be responsible for providing the electrical knowledge and skills to perform the preventive and repair maintenance to the facility equipment in a safe, economical and environmentally sound manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Use time, company equipment and materials in the best interest of the company.
Responsible for accuracy, quality and quantity of work.
Possess in-depth knowledge of electrical equipment and the associated documentation within assigned area of responsibility and capable of utilizing the following standard reference material:
ANSI, NFPA, NETA, American Electricians Handbook, and Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers.
Working knowledge of all the standard electrical test equipment.
Should be capable of formulating and acting upon a logical step-by- step troubleshooting procedure.
Knowledge of the following: overhead line design, protective relays, construction and maintenance substation and switchyard equipment and hardware; emergency generator system operations.
Basic understanding of the power distribution system. Must have the proven ability to read, interpret basic electrical drawings, maintain, and initiate required revisions to documentation.
Support the continuous operation of the plant by being available outside of regular scheduled work hours.
Troubleshoot Switchgear and breaker operation
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required; Certificate from an approved Electrical school
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following essential skills and qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in high voltage electrical maintenance or 8+ years’ of experience in high line electrical and a certificate of completion from a vocational technical or military school or an associate’s degree in electrical or electronic technology and 6+ years of electrical high line maintenance. • Must be capable of troubleshooting electrical high line, switchyard and substation equipment, protective relay systems and capable of writing switching procedures. • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings; a high mechanical aptitude and the ability to comprehend and apply information in technical service manuals; excellent verbal and written communication skills • Good computer skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, squat/bend, push/pull; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working inside, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE and safety equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harness, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs. Travel may occasionally be required.
