Specific Responsibilities
The Risk Manager for Apache Corporation will be a vital member of Apache’s Enterprise Risk Management team, reporting to the Vice President, Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance. This role will be primarily responsible for daily execution of the company’s ERM program as follows:
Implement the ERM program strategy and objectives while assessing overall enterprise impacts
Prepare and obtain broader risk assessments for new ventures, country exposures, and more strategic company initiatives
Lead meetings across the organization on risk identification and assessment sessions, and to facilitate needed risk actions and improvements
Own, manage and improve the company’s risk management program and IT application
Validate risk mitigation actions and document results in the company’s Risk IT application
Prepare and provide risk information and updates to senior management, risk owners and functional management on a regular basis
Assist risk owners in the identification and assessment of risks, and in developing / executing on risk mitigation and recovery strategies
Train employees as needed on risk concepts and needed improvements
Assist with risk-related Audit Committee presentations
Participate in meetings and work with management at all levels within the organization in furtherance of identifying and managing organizational risks
Continually instill a risk awareness and approach throughout the organization
Keep abreast of risk best practices, communicating them as pertinent within the organization, and instilling them in Apache’s ERM program when warranted
Design risk assessments spanning business operations and compliance to evaluate the effectiveness of controls
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other pertinent business-related degree
Minimum 5 years of direct, relevant experience in establishing or managing a public company Enterprise Risk Management program
Strong experience with ERM concepts, tools and best practices
Experience with operational process flow risks and evaluations, and identifying control gaps and process improvement opportunities
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse leaders of professional and technical expertise to reach strategic decisions, with a vision of continuous improvement using industry best practices
Hands-on risk IT application experience preferred
Proven strong aptitude for problem solving and root cause analysis
Experience in the oil and gas industry highly preferred, midstream experience a plus
Strong teamwork orientation, with the ability to work independently as needed
Skilled in formal presentations at different levels of the organization
Excellent Communication Skills (written and verbal)
