Want to assist in designing and developing packaging structures and materials for a Fortune 200 Company with some of the most iconic brands? If you have a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design / Design Engineering along with proven experience in the design of rigid packaging for consumer-packaged goods, we want to speak with you! We are currently looking for a Packaging Designer to join our Packaging Design & Innovation Department in Richmond, VA. The successful candidate will work multi-functionally with Brand Management, Design Agencies, Consumer Research, Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Procurement, and our suppliers to develop packaging structures in alignment with business needs.
What you will be doing:
Collaborating with multi-functional partners internally and externally to design innovative packaging structures and implementation plans that ensure high quality, cost efficient solutions
Engaging proactively with groups to ensure new packaging meets product requirements as well as consumer expectations
Developing secondary packaging materials, as needed, by working inclusively with Graphics Specialists, Commercialization and Manufacturing to ensure commercial printability and manufacturability
Using project management skills and tools to run development processes, budgets, and timelines
Continuously monitoring projects to engage and inform partners regarding project status and recommend course corrections as needed
Ensuring all Financial, Legal and Regulatory Compliance requirements are met during packaging development activities
Independently applying technical principles and techniques to analyze and solve problems
We want you to have:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Design Engineering / Industrial Design
3+ years professional experience in the design of rigid packaging for consumer-packaged goods, primarily using injection molded plastics (other areas of interest include blow molded plastics and formed metal packaging)
Experience designing child-resistant packaging and familiar with protocols and standards for child-resistant packaging certification
Experience producing physical models of packaging concepts using rapid prototyping equipment and services
Sketching / 3-D communication skills and ability to communicate complex technical information to others
Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks (or similar)
Familiar with standard Microsoft Office products
Experience with typical development process, project planning and project management
Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
Familiar with packaging in a FDA regulated environment
Understanding of environmental / sustainability concerns related to packaging
Strong interpersonal collaboration skills with the ability to influence others without authority
Self-motivated and must possess a high level of personal initiative
Ability to be flexible in the face of rapidly evolving markets and business priorities
Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally to support business objectives
