Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety Professional is responsible for a wide range of safety activities including program development and interpretation, conducting safety training, auditing and corrective actions. The candidate should be familiar with OSHA standards. This position reports to the refinery Safety Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Providing support as the point of contact person for an Area Team on all safety related items.
Supporting the refinery as a technical resource for safety issues including interpretation of standards and regulations, accident/incident investigations, and maintenance turnaround support.
Project, TAR and Outage support as well as rotational weekend duty as required.
Leading multidisciplinary teams to develop/revise Safety and IH-related policies and procedures.
Developing, coordinating, and presenting various Safety/IH training courses to refinery personnel.
Anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling chemical, biological and physical health hazards within the facility.
Engaging in project related work by participating in the review and approval of plan development, Management of Change (MOC and PMOC) reviews and project safety plans.
Conducting Contractor Field Performance Audits and meeting with contractors to communicate safety expectations and help them meet the Company expectations.
Reviewing work permits, correcting deficiencies and identifying improvement opportunities.
Serving as an advocate for first line employees to help them safely complete work.
Ensuring OSHA regulatory compliance.
Providing guidance, interpretations, and technical assistance related to safety and health issues.
Providing clear and consistent written and verbal information.
Willing to join the Emergency Response Team and/or Air Monitoring team.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Management or Industrial Hygiene is preferred.
Five years of Refining or related experience familiar with OSHA standards is preferred.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products, SharePoint and competent with PowerBI.
ASP, GSP and CIH certification is preferred.
