Job Description

The Process Safety Engineer provides technical assurance for Process Safety (Technical Safety) for a batch chemical manufacturing facility. The Process Safety Engineer may manage Process Safety work processes such as Hazard Effects Management Process activities and compliance of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) element of Process Safety Management (PSM) as required by the company and government regulations or other site Process Safety work processes (e.g. EPA Risk Management Program, facility siting, Management of Change (MOC), etc.

What You Will Do:

Provide daily safety support, develop and update procedures, review and incorporate updates to the assigned process safety programs from corporate, local, state, federal requirements (e.g. PHA or Risk Management, LOPC Tracking, Assurance) to operating areas.
Provides discipline specific engineering assistance, direction and development assistance to colleagues
Solves technical problems related to projects and troubleshoots and updates report data for business unit(s)
 Champions and participates in MOC analysis of related components and systems, processes and methods with a focus on PSM compliance
Ensures the maintenance and integrity of PSM Department data
Conducts technical reviews for safety critical Operating Procedures and policy reviews
Leads Process Hazard Analysis and provides technical safety lead support.
Conducts PSM training as needed to improve the process Safety Culture
Lead risk studies
Participate on the plant environmental/compliance team.
Support Plant OSHA compliance via membership on the Central Safety Committee, performing required safety audits, documentation of required planned inspections and quick follow-up and response to safety observations that are submitted.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline
5 years experience in a safety specific engineering experience and environment
No immigration sponsorship available for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or Advanced degree in Chemical engineering.
Demonstrated knowledge of process safety tools and techniques on cross functional teams.
A strong understanding of basic chemical processes and the elements of process safety is required.
Ability to guide and train employees
Demonstrated competence in the management of one or more engineering project concurrently, with emphasis on in-depth technical contribution.
Current with technology in his/her discipline.
