The Data Platform team within the AI/ML organization powers analytics, experimentation and ML feature engineering to power Siri, Search and other ML features we all love in our Apple devices. The mission of the Data Platform org is to provide our engineers and data scientists a cutting edge, reliable and easy to use infrastructure for ingesting, storing, processing and interacting with data and ultimately help the teams that build data intensive applications be successful. Key Qualifications
8+ years of experience in big data domain. Example technologies include batch and stream processing (e.g. Spark, Hive, Flink, Kafka), analytical engines (e.g. Trino, Druid), search platform (e.g. Solr/Lucene), tooling (e.g. Airflow, Jupyter, Superset), and storage format (e.g. Iceberg)
3+ years demonstrated ability building and managing a team of highly-skilled software engineers
Superb verbal and written communication skills, able to collaborate cross-functionally with program managers and engineering partners
Passionate about operational excellence through proper automation and engineering processes
Being methodical in ensuring infrastructure is built in an optimized and sustainable manner
Creative problem-solving skills, and able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Must have strong project management skills, scrum master experience is a huge plus
Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Infrastructure-as-code, security, and data privacy & compliance is a big plus
Description
You will be responsible for managing an engineering team that drives automation, CI/CD deployment, packaging of software stack, and operations for the data processing platform across batch, streaming and tooling.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of engineers with automation and operations skills
- Define and execute on clear strategy and roadmap for platform automation and sustainable operations
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on automation planning and execution
- Define and adopt a balanced on-call schedule and standard operational procedures with team
- Foster a healthy, collaborative, and technology-driven culture, and a high output team
- This is a management position that requires technical background, including problem solving with team, debugging operational and performance issues, adding system observability, and code reviews, etc.
