Sr. Corrosion Control Specialist

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Charged with the oversite and execution of the cathodic protection (CP) and corrosion control surveying program for Hess North Dakota Bakken pipelines and facilities.
Responsible for regulatory compliance within the CP and corrosion control program.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair of field equipment such as rectifiers, remote monitoring units, and other CP related equipment to meet operational needs in compliance with Hess and Regulatory requirements.
Performs surveys such as structure to soil potentials, soil resistivity, coupon tests, rectifier reads, and atmospheric corrosion surveys, and is responsible for the report generation specifically for PHMSA regulated lines.
Ensures proper document retention and ensure all project and survey data, records, and reports are inputted into the Pipeline Compliance Software (PCS) and Hess’ Integrity SharePoint.
Reviews corrosion data and makes recommendations to CP Engineer and MR&I Integrity Engineering Lead to correct deficiencies. At times, the Senior Corrosion Technician will also be responsible for coordination or execution of corrective actions needed that were identified from surveys by developing specific technical scopes.
Coordinates and inspects the efforts of 3rd party contractors performing corrosion and specialty surveys.
Maintains key dashboards and metrics to support safety, quality, delivery, and cost visibility as part of an operational control process.
Charged with providing leadership in coaching, training, and supporting CP contractors and other CP Technicians to perform their roles within Safety, Quality, and Productivity standards. 
Responsible for field and desktop audits around Quality Control, Regulatory and Hess Standard Compliance, and EHS expectations.
Responsible for Quality Control and execution of CP and coating surveys (CIS, ACVG, DCVG).
Responsible for execution or coordination of atmospheric coatings inspection and remediation projects, and responsible for report generation for exposed pipe inspections, specifically for PHMSA regulated lines.
Ensures contractors are qualified to perform Covered Tasks.
Keep informed of new developments and requirements affecting Hess for the purpose of recommending changes in process.
Responsible for providing project team and CP Engineer support on CP requirements (example, new sacrificial anode system, new ICCP system, connecting to existing CP systems, etc.).
With support of the Integrity Team Lead and the CP Engineer, develop and achieve the MR&I Corrosion budget and schedule.
Responsible for reviewing and approving contractor invoices.
Recognizes operating deviations and abnormal operating conditions, makes notifications, and takes appropriate corrective actions.
Uses technical resources and tools (Alegro Field Data PC, Fluke Digital Multimeters, Coating Holiday Detector, RFIT) to perform assigned work.

Team Development

Prepare and update Corrosion Control Standard Operating Procedures and Corrosion Control Guidelines to support program and team development.
Provide direction to contract team members emphasizing quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, environment/health/safety, and morale.

Work Environment   

Role in Tioga, ND on a 9/80 work schedule with field visits as needed
Field Time (“go see”, meetings/collaboration) – 75%
Desk Time (admin, invoices, data analysis, emails) – 25%

Experience/Skills        

10+ years oil and gas industry experience or equivalent industry related experience in cathodic protection and corrosion control
Working knowledge of PHMSA 49 CFR 195 and 49 CFR 192 as it pertains to external corrosion control requirements
Proficient computer skills - Microsoft Office, SAP, and Pipeline Compliance Software (PCS)
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and process improvements
Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision in a diverse, multidiscipline team environment
Ability to manage activities for multiple projects in parallel while effectively managing time and resources required

Education/Training     

High School Diploma
NACE CP3 – Cathodic Protection Technologist or NACE CP4 – Cathodic Protection Specialist certification
Preferred: Engineering or technical degree
