POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible to deliver quality machined parts for prototype samples and Test hardware on time, with zero error. This position leads the department in the areas of Continuous Improvement, Leadership, and Technical CNC Programming and machining abilities.

Provide feedback of missing material, incorrect documentation for orders
Assists in the procurement or fabrication of required tooling, and fixturing
Participates in 5S events in the machining area and identifying new opportunities for future projects
Participates in safety audits in the machining area, while promoting safety with peers & management
Assists in development of other machinist to their full potential
Seeks opportunities to completely utilize available capacity on machines
A customer resource for design & machining capabilities
Ability to communicate across departmental boundaries both internally & externally
Provides feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing departments.
Is responsible for advanced problem solving and involvement/communications with others to ensure objectives are met.
Technical CNC Programming and machining abilities
Interprets 3D models or drawings from PRO-E, UG, IGES, etc., import into Mastercam, and develop appropriate machining programs
Using Mastercam, develops the appropriate tool path, and selects the correct tooling based on the required metal (steel, Titanium, Aluminum etc.)
Writes programs for operating CNC lathes and mills
Provides feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing departments as required
Assist peers with advanced trouble shooting techniques regarding programming, tooling selection, and advanced setups
Plans and performs complex machining operations using experience and judgement
Assists in maintaining an effective and efficient machine shop operation by determining the best course of action, from the options available, in machining a part
Operates within set parameters provided for cost, completion time, test, and sample schedules
Reads, interprets, and evaluates work/machining requests and engineering prints to determine necessary machining requirements and correctness
Inspects machined and procured parts as necessary utilizing indicators, micrometers, calipers and related devices for optimal accuracy
Maintains the equipment files of manuals, prints and pertinent information.
Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires high school diploma with courses in machine shop equipment, mechanical drafting, and Engineering vocational training. Machinist degree from an accredited technical program preferred.
Must have strong technical math skills, especially trigonometry and descriptive geometry, to accurately perform machining operations and to calculate tapers, fourth axis coordinates, etc.
This position requires at least 7 years’ experience in general machining and 7 years of experience in the programming, set-up, and operation of CNC equipment.
A strong background in Mechanical Drafting and ability to read and interpret blueprints, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) are required.
Must have a strong understanding of the relationship between tooling and various metal compounds.
Experience and knowledge in G-code, CAD, CAM is required with preference given to Pro-E and Mastercam knowledge.
Experience using Fanuc and Okuma OSP controls preferred.
Works with minimal supervision and manages process.
Must be able to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations.
