We have an immediate opening for a Steel Applications Technical Sales Engineer located at our world headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania. If you have a passion for technical sales and enjoy providing excellent service to customers, apply today!

You will travel 30-40% to customer sites in the U.S. and Canada. The travel will involve connecting with customers and new prospects, working to improve their operations, making presentations and proposals. You will work with Air Products liquid-bulk and on-site sales teams to sell industrial gases (oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, argon, etc.).

As a steel specialist, you will be the initial contact with customers, and you will play an integral part from startup to customer retention. This is a very exciting and multifaceted position, where no two days are the same.

What you will do:

Lead new business signings and technical sales of gases, technology, and equipment. Engage with sub-regional marketing, segment marketing and lead generation to develop a broader opportunity pipeline.
Collaborate with our applied research group to develop new offerings for the steel industry. Develop technical papers and marketing materials that showcase modeling or lab/field demonstrations.
Understand current and future steel processes, environmental issues, and de-carbonization efforts.
Resolve customer technical challenges and help customers improve their operations, efficiency, and safety.
Develop the scope and support the execution of technology demonstrations in the field, proving the benefits of industrial gases in customer processes such as melting or heating operations.
Engage and continually learn about this industry by attending trade associations, technical organizations, major conferences, and local trade shows to present technical papers, promote technology, and to support marketing efforts.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate technical degree required, preferably Engineering; an MBA is a plus.
Multi-year experience in the steel industry.
Proven understanding of melting applications in the steel industry, knowledge of mini mill and integrated mill operations, DRI and other alternative iron processes, metals refining experience, knowledge of refractories, furnace design and combustion systems.
Familiarity with oxy-fuel combustion is preferred.
Experience in technical service, sales, or applications development a plus.
Experience in or prior exposure to the industrial gases industry a plus.
Ability to work effectively across functions and levels, both internally and externally.
Strong communication skills, ability to influence others, and proven teamwork skills.
