In today's dynamic environment, it is an exciting time to be a part of the research and technology team at Colgate. Our highly technical and innovative team is dedicated to driving growth for Colgate Palmolive in this ever-changing landscape. What role will you play as a member of the Colgate's Research & Development team? As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing solutions to alter the composition of oral biofilms and tie those changes to measurable health benefits both in the mouth and beyond.

What you will do:

25% to carry out new packaging materials and compounds development work, including carbon-neutral materials, natural polymers, recycled materials, to support the company's packaging sustainability goals
20% to build up R&D capabilities within Global Packaging, including material characterizations using advanced instruments, such as SEM, AFM, XPS, DSC, FTIR GC/HPLC etc. as well as the mechanical property evaluation of the materials
20% to develop testing protocols to investigate the compatibility and interactions between the packaging and products, which will help the optimization of barrier property and packaging structure of the packaging
15% to provide packaging support to the cross functional groups, including the Safety, Regulatory, Micro, as well as the product development (PD) and early research (ER)
10% to identify the proper smart packaging technologies and develop smart packaging for Colgate
10% to coordinate with the external research group (SITA) to monitor packaging related technologies and bring them to Colgate if they fit the business needs

Key Competencies:

Deep knowledge on materials, esp. the polymers
Extensive skills on material characterization, deep understanding of the structure and performance relationship of the materials
Practical skills on creativity, problem solving and communication
Fundamental understanding of a wide variety of package technologies ranging from injection molding to fiber based packaging
Ability to influence and motivate cross-functional partners to develop & implement programs
Can inspire and enroll teams in a vision
Ability to balance multiple stakeholders, both across functions and geographics
Strong presentation skills, speaking ability and interpersonal skills

Division Packaging Teams
Colgate other cross-functional teams, including CCR&I, SITA, Global Safety, CICs

Required Qualifications: 

Ph.D. Degree in Polymer Science/ Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred industrial product development experience
Working experience on industrial R&D to develop new packaging materials
