Scope of the Position:

We are offering a unique job opportunity to conduct research in an exciting field of next-generation communications systems. This position provides a wide range of opportunities to invent and bring to realization life-changing next-generation Communication technologies for the 5G and beyond Mobile Communication era. The successful candidate will work closely with teams of outstanding Research Scientists and Engineers located at our state-of-the-art research center in Corning, NY, as well as other global locations. The successful candidate will drive research focusing on high-frequency (mmWave and THz) signal transmission/propagation and interaction with materials and devices. In addition, the candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing experimental laboratory capabilities for generating, transmitting, and evaluating high-frequency radio signals. He/she will be expected to generate and document relevant IP to protect key inventions related to the field of high-frequency radio technologies.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Propose, and execute research projects/activities involving high-frequency radio technologies • Investigate fundamentals of and develop models for various phenomena governing interactions between various materials and high-frequency signals

• Develop concepts for high-performing mmWave and other high-frequency components and systems

• Drive the fabrication of high-frequency components as needed

• Design and execute laboratory experiments for mmWave and other high-frequency technologies.

• Collaborate with other teams working on high-frequency radio technologies and drive technology transfer to various Development organizations within Corning.

Travel requirements: ~5 % travel - some international

Hours of work/work schedule: 40 hours/week, with extended hours if needed.

Education:

MSc. or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Material Science or related field.

Required Experience:

Minimum 3 years industrial experience with emphasis on high-frequency radio technologies is required for MSc. degree holders. PhD degree holders without previous industrial experience are also eligible to apply.

Required Skills:

• Strong background in material science with emphasis on high-frequency radio technologies.

• Expert understanding of EM theory and high-frequency signal interaction with materials and components.

• Direct hands-on experience designing and fabricating high-frequency components and devices • Ability to analyze and resolve highly complex technical problems quickly and independently.

• Familiarity with mobile communication standards – including 5G

• Proven track record of research contributions and publications in leading and internationally recognized conferences and journals

Desired Skills:

• Working knowledge of telecommunication systems

• Experience with high-frequency circuit and electromagnetic (EM) simulators such as Cadence, ADS, MWO, and HFSS would be an advantage

• Previous experience in leading projects
