Job Description

Major Function:

This position is responsible for the safety and overall production management of a specified shift by continuous monitoring of standard operating procedures and constant communication with shift personnel.  Particularly, this position is responsible for employee adherence to all safety, quality, health and environmental rules, the manufacturing process (which includes efficient operations and spoilage reductions), proper placement and efficient use of personnel, housekeeping, the maintenance of manufacturing equipment, accurate production reporting, employee documentation for Human resources and communication with Shift Supervisors and Managers both in plant or on other shifts. 

Technical Know-How:

Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical equipment, processes, and systems. Basic understanding of computers, Microsoft Word and Microsoft EXCEL. Experience in metals-based production processes preferred.  Substantial background in production management, shift organization, line staffing, production control, safety, production reporting and employee documentation systems required.

Human Relations Know-How:

The position requires significant interaction with both hourly and salaried employees.  Leadership and Management skills are essential for success.

Accountability:

The position’s primary responsibilities include:

Supervise the work of up to 32 team members
Shift performance (quality, downtime and work efficiency) management of the Main production lines and the Bottom Presses
Working closely with the Team Leaders of the support groups (Body Maker, Printer Maintenance, Maintenance, and Electricians) to ensure adequate planning and smooth operator.
Additionally, Night shift supervisors will be required to direct the employees in the support groups as needed to achieve daily goals
Environmental/Health/Safety
Housekeeping throughout plant facility
Production/downtime/spoilage reporting
Employee documentation processes
Identification of staffing/layout/reliability issues
Production process improvement support
Facilitate Shift Safety Team meetings
Promote and uphold 5-S and other Lean production principles.
Lead Continuous Improvement projects
Other tasks as assigned
Wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE) AT ALL TIMES. (i.e., earplugs and safety glasses). 

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED required.
At least three years of experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
Proven experience in production and personnel management, systems implementation, and continuous improvement.
Hands-on skills, proven management ability and sound work ethic are prerequisites.
Prior supervisory – skills training such as: Conflict resolution, Communication skills, Lean manufacturing, Problem solving, OSHA 10 or greater, and general leadership training.

Ability to maintain keen vision and mental awareness while practicing careful attention to detail.
Self-starter that can accomplish tasks with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.
Team-player with aptitude to learn the ITW culture and work within a fast-pace environment with frequently shifting priorities.
Work alongside team members to support troubleshooting, problem solving, root cause analysis, and related process improvement activities.

4 days of 12 hour shifts either AM or PM.
