Job Description


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
A Claims Assistant aids the claims examiners in the administration of indemnity claims.  The successful candidate is computer literate, has excellent organizational skills, and is able to succeed in an environment of rapidly changing priorities.

Should be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
Relies on instructions, pre-established guidelines, experience, and judgment to perform the functions of the job and accomplish goals.
Performs a variety of tasks autonomously and with proficiency. Works under general supervision. Some degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Issue benefits checks and DWC notices
File and serve legal and medical documents
Prepare correspondence as directed
Copy and file work as requested
Communicate with medical providers
Document file notes with pertinent information
Assist with customer service issues
File and Serve files to the Insurance Carrier

HOW YOU WOULD FIT IN

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: An Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school is required; or six months’ to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATH ABILITY: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of office operations, workflow analysis, and current technologies in telecommunications, data entry, and file management.
COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft word processing software; Microsoft spreadsheet software; and be proficient on applicable databases, systems, and vendor software programs.
