Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director for Off-Campus Student Services is the key expert resource of the Niner Choice safety education program and off-campus student services team that has the primary responsibility of coordinating the Niner Choice program and off-campus student services. Additionally, the AD supports all departmental assessment efforts related to off-campus student research and data collection. The Assistant Director is to serve as the full time supervisor of a Graduate Assistant (when available) assigned to the Niner Choice and Off-Campus Student Services team and is expected to assist with supervision of the Administration & Assessment team members when delegated by the Director for Housing Administration & Assessment.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four year college or university and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Job Duties
Create, adjust, and distribute schedules for annual and as-needed administrative reviews at each of the off-campus properties in, or aspiring to participate in, the Niner Choice Program to ensure compliance with and continued participation in the program guidelines
Maintain appropriate, up-to-date protocols, policies, procedures, and practices that are communicated effectively to staff, students, off-campus housing providers, and the broader University community
Serve as a department liaison for the Niner Choice and Off-Campus Student Services Team with off-campus property managers, Student Assistance and Support Services, Dean of Students Office, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety, Admissions, Disability Services, Office of International Programs, Athletics
Monitor local data regarding off-campus student housing (including, e.g., capacity, rental rates, geographic distribution, etc.) and advise Student Affairs leadership of relevant trends
Track national trends and best practices in off-campus occupancy management, university public safety partnerships with off-campus properties, and off-campus housing for students
Maintain a working knowledge of the Niner Choice Program guidelines
Develop and implement appropriate protocols for inspections, regular meetings, virtual and paper resources, and presentation needs
Perform initial outreach to interested off campus properties.
Collect and maintain all signed Niner Choice agreements
Coordinate property showcase efforts for students living off-campus including providing information, advising, and support for students exploring or transitioning to off-campus housing
Serve as a resource for students and parents who have concerns about off-campus housing
Educate students about how to be smart consumers in the off-campus housing market
Create both active and passive programmatic opportunities to prepare students for life off-campus and contribute to the success and retention of off-campus students
Educate students and campus partners about relevant ordinances and regulations affecting off-campus students
Manager the selection, hiring, training, ongoing development, and supervision of a Graduate Assistant
Research and triage off-campus student concerns and complaints to help to connect students with appropriate campus resources
Utilize Maxent to store, share, and access information about off-campus student concerns
Other Work Responsibilities
Provides support to the Assignments area as needed (with presentations, collaborations, room changes, room assignments, etc.) as delegated by the Director for Housing Administration and Assessment

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Previous experience working in a university Housing and Residence Life Department strongly preferred (Housing and Residence Life Advisor, Program Assistant or Coordinator) and/or the off-campus housing market.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and all G Suite apps.
Must be detailed oriented and demonstrate the ability to coordinate and monitor multiple tasks in a very busy office environment.
Superior customer service skills needed.
Excellent conflict management skills needed.
Must have the ability to decrease tension and mitigate personal conflict between stake holders (off-campus partners, community leaders, parents, students, university staff and visitors).
Excellent relationship building skills, political sensitivity, and well-developed written and verbal communication skills are critical.
