Battery Test Engineer

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Create and document test routines and conduct tests using industry-standard battery testing equipment (Maccor, Webasto, BioLogic).
For tests not possible on industry-standard equipment, develop novel and creative custom test apparatus using, for example, power supplies, load banks, and National Instruments interface software.
Perform testing on batteries equipped with digital interfaces, for example, CAN bus using Vector CANalyzer or CANape, using Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) methods.
Construct and document mechanical assemblies, such as battery test stations, battery prototypes and reliability test bays, and perform checkout and troubleshooting functions
Perform data analysis using industry-standard tools (MATLAB, Origin, Excel). Create and document test results for battery modeling, simulation, and algorithms team. Present and review test data with BMS team and managers.
Focus on work area safety, cleanliness, material usage and organization.
Perform the teardown and forensics analysis of failed cells with the chief electrochemist..
Perform the partial teardown of lithium-ion battery cells, preparation of reference electrodes, and insertion of reference electrodes in battery cells.
Perform the partial teardown of lithium-ion battery cells and the harvesting of electrodes to create half-cell test samples for analysis
Ensure customer specific compliance.

Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, computer science or equivalent technical field from an accredited institution
5+ years of practical laboratory experience, ideally including the testing and construction of lithium-ion batteries
Hands-on technical background
Ability to fabricate mechanical assemblies and test fixtures with little instruction
Attention to detail and the ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision are critical
Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a small, dynamic team responsible for product development
Knowledge of battery test equipment (Maccor, BioLogic, Arbin, etc.) and glove box work is a plus
