About the Role
As a Senior Resident Engineer you will provide hardware and software technical and troubleshooting of audio systems to OEM. In addition, you will be the bridge between the customer and internal engineering teams.
Your Team
You will not have any direct reports and will work with a global engineering team along with Program Managers and Sales teams.
What You Will Do
Lead the electrical system integration aspects of HARMAN’s new product development programs at the customer’s site.
Interact with the customer’s various engineering organizations, such as audio, infotainment, instrument panel, wiring, electrical, system integration, EMC, bus communication
Test components at customer’s electrical test bench/vehicle to troubleshoot, diagnose, debug and root cause Hardware, Software and Systems Issues
Point of contact between OEM Leads and Hardware, Software and Systems Engineering internal stakeholders
Manage and track software releases in the customers release system
Document test failures in JIRA system
Lead software updates using HARMAN and customer’s flashing tools
Lead/Support retrofit efforts at customer site
Support Audio and Noise tuning at customer site
Maintain Resident Engineering work instructions and documentation in Confluence
Communicate customer design direction and changes to the internal design team, including program management, and amplifier engineering.
Facilitate the transfer of specifications, change requests, roll-out plans, software tools, etc., between the customer and HARMAN using data exchange systems as necessary; engineering, software engineering and as appropriate, quality personnel
Coordinate the communication of related design documentation between the customer and HARMAN, such as; specifications, connector pin-out definitions, communications protocols and wiring diagrams
Track Software Engineering change requests
Chair and/or attend customer meetings as engineering representative.
Coordinate meeting assignments with fellow Resident Engineers
Audio system open issue meeting
Lead 8D analysis and documentation
Software bench evaluations and integration troubleshooting
Design reviews at the concept, prototype, and production stages of development
Issue-resolution reviews following customer builds at the concept, prototype, and production stages of development
Pilot reviews and launch-readiness meetings
Review sample parts (concept-, prototype- and production-level) with the customer for immediate feedback.
Verify Electrical integration of components in concept-, prototype- and production-level vehicles
Compare customer and HARMAN components against CAD models, specifications and drawings
Report, investigate track all software integration issues discovered by the customer
Report and negotiate engineering specifications with the customer
Travel periodically to support vehicle troubleshooting at assembly plant
Participate in software integration/debug initiatives as conducted by the customer
What You Need
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related field
5 years’ experience
Hands on experience with a wide range of electrical test and diagnostic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and data loggers
Must be able to use software flashing, test and diagnostic tools
Experience working within automotive
Able to communicate in a matrixed organization and present at all levels
What is Nice to Have
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
2+ years’ experience
Design experience of automotive electronics Hardware and/or Software
What Makes You Eligible
Be willing to travel domestic up to 10% of the time
Required to work at customer office in Dearborn, MI for the majority of work time, some work in local Harman office in Novi, MI
Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
This position requires the occasional use of a HARMAN or customer-owned vehicle. As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN’s sole discretion, no more than 4 active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years.
